6-speed much smoother now...ABOUT TIME!!

just swapped out the OEM icky brown fluid for Redline 75w90.

first thing i noticed RIGHT AWAY was how the clutch drops like nothings attached. it feels SO SO SO soft, and the gears, let me not say about the gears...smooth shifts. even the infamous 2-3 shift is noticably smooother. i'm a happy 6-speed owner now. must thank greg at greghome.com for the right size of the hex bit. thanx a lot whoever you are.

Re: 6-speed much smoother now...ABOUT TIME!!

I have used MT-90 in my old 240SX with similar improvement.

I am very interested in trying something new to make shifts less clunky in this 6-spd.

Anyone else had similar results?

cool...I might try that...what did it cost you?

I usually don't have problems going from 2nd to 3rd, usually from 6th or 5th to 3rd is when I get my grinding...

I just put it in on Tuesday.
May shifting is SOO much smoother.
All the shifting is smoother and lighter.
I can now shift into first and second in cold weather.
Compared to my other shifts my 2-3 shift still is not perfect but it is about 80% better.

It will cost you about $30 bucks for 3 quarts.

My shifts are a lot better with the MT90 and as the mileage adds up, the shifts are getting better and better. I've got no issues with the shift quality now, not butter smooth but not clunky either.

Just changed my fluid today to mt90. I drove it around and the SES light came on. I disconnected the battery, hopefully it will help.

Shifts are feeling really good now. Nissan should sell the cars with this stuff!

How many quarts did you buy? I can't find the capacity for the manual tranny in the owner's manual.

oh yeah, an FYI, i didn't know this, and maybe some of you dont' either. it is impossible to overflow a manual tranny with fluid.because of the fill hole is vertical, you keep on filling (the car should be flat and not on ramps) and at around 2.5 quarts, when you see it start to overflow, you're done.

Just changed mine too!

Should be the 1st mod done to the vehicle. Have had noticable difference in shifting compared to stock gear oil. Only down-fall it's like $9 per quart. Just wish I went to the website early.

Why would changing your tranny oil have any effect on your clutch pedal feel? It's a completely isolated system and doesn't come in contact with your tranny fluid or the internals of the tranny itself. It only enguages the engine to the input shaft.

Thats what I was thinking...
I love the stuff it really smooths out the shifts but does nothing for the clutch.

Sorry if I sound stupid, but which is better for everyday driving? I live where cold is 65 and hot is 85 degrees. MT-90 or 75w90(?).

You need MT-90 weather is not the factor, warranty is MT-90 is GL-4 (I believe thats the rating) which is what is called for in the manual.

Polo, why did you choose 75w90 over the MT-90?

ok, i guess i confused some people...the description of myoilship.com for the oil i chose says this:

MT90: Manual Transmission Lubricant - a 75W90 GL-4 gear oil designed for use in manual transmissions and transaxles.

so i said 75w90, which it is, but i meant MT90, which is the same thing. the other oil they have is MTL, which is a 75w80 based gear oil.

5-spd = 4qts. I bought 5 when I did mine and used a little more than 4.
