Installing Helical Limited Slip in a Stock '03 Max 6sp

I recently bought a base '03 Max 6sp with no options. I was wondering if it is possible to install the Helical Limited Slip differential in the car at a Nissan dealer. I get a different answer from everyone on this. Like it requires a totally different transmission, or that it requires different electronics to work. No one really seems to know for sure so I thought I'd try you guys.
If it is possible, please let me know what is involved and how much it might cost. I'm hoping that it's simply a matter of bolting in a new part.

Before you ask why I didn't just get a model from the factory equipped with the HLSD, I'll tell you that only fully loaded versions of the Max 6sp came with it and I didn't want to spend $4000 on extras I didn't want just to get a $400 option.

Also, I am aware that someone else started a thread about the HLSD but his thread seemed to ask more about the handling aspects as opposed just getting one installed. I have driven both and can definitely vouch for the difference in traction when the Max is equipped with one. My thread is aimed solely at whether the Nissan HLSD can be installed on a stock Max 6sp that didn't come with it.

Thanks for your help!

As i remember it, you should be able to do one as an easy drop it in. I have actually seen the HLSD device outside my tranny. It doesn't have a special being races like the VLSDs do.

Thanks but your link wouldn't let me in. I assume it was a link to multiple other links. Maybe a non-donating member(me) isn' t allowed to view a linked search results page from a donating member(you)?

Hey, been pondering the exact same thing for a year now. Conclusion is that it's going to cost a whole lot more than just 400 bucks =(.

Although, it's not impossible at all. The only thing i'm lacking is part numbers . Most people I talk to aren't even aware that the max comes with HLSD and think i'm talking about some kind of traction control. Anyway the way I see it there's two options.

1.) procure the HLSD parts, pay for tranny rebuild.

2.) get a new or used HLSD tranny, do tranny swap.

I wish someone would put together a kit. Anyway as far as I know, on front wheel drive cars, the differential is actually contained within the transmission housing. So it's not as simple as just buying the differential assembly and bolting it on

Anyway, if anyone knows exactly which parts constitute the HLSD (at least names) please post!

I just thought of something else. I was searching around on eaton and torsen's web pages, perhaps one of these is the OEM manufacturer for nissan HLSD's? Maybe they will let us order the part from them if we could just figure out the details?

The service manual has been out for a while now, but it makes no mention of the HLSD. I think the reason being is that the service manual is dated 9/01 which is before any of the HLSD equipped manuals became available. At least this is the case wih the one I bought, legally I might add.
