Some places its enforced, and others it's not. Heck, some places I believe it's not even the law. You really have to check depending on which state you live in. I know where I live (Ontario) it's the law, and it's enforced unfortunately

do what i do if they pull me over for that you can always say that they stole your ez pass (the ones that are attach to the license plate)and in the event they stole your plate along with the maxima Frame...Thats an idea...

depend on where you live.
I got pull over in CA with no front license plate.. fix it ticket.. cost me like 15 bucks to write it off.

now live in MI.. it doesn't require front license plate.. so my front bumper have two nasty hole that the CA dealer put on when they put on the front license plate.

The car looks better without it!

In NYC its a $50 dollar parking violation. I found out the hard way. Don't ask.

round 1,2 goes to Bloomberg

In Tennessee, there is no front license plate required, and when I bought the car, there was not one on it. Imagine my surprise when, after the dealer had the car "detailed for drive-out", two holes had been drilled in the front bumper, and the dealerships name was plastered across a huge, white license plate on the front bumper. Before I left the lot, I made it a point to remove the plate, bracket and all, and throw it in the trash can outside of the showroom. Then, I drove straight home and removed the dealership "badge" from the trunk as well.

When I picked up my T/A a few years back, I SPECIFICALLY told the dealer "DO NOT PUT ON THE FRONT PLATE!" They got all kinds of "Well, you know it's illegal...blah..blah..blah" I was like "Dude, I'll worry about the ticket".

Then I got pulled over for it a few months after and I said to the cop "Oh yea, that damn dealer is supposed to be ordering me the bracket...I'm so p'issed I've been waiting 3 months!" He let me go...the braket was in the hatch back!

When I bought my 2K2, I specifically told the dealer not to but a front plate on (NC doesn't require it). When I went to pick it up - there it was. Next time I came in I went and dumped it in my salesman's trashcan with a strong words for him.

Got 2 holes that I didn't have to pay for. It ticked me off.
Oh yeah, the "Southern States Nissan" was off the rear within 20 mins after getting home. Damn dealership advertising.

Just a note...

They do sell plugs for the holes. Some guy on the Altima board sells them.

Yeah I tried some plugs before I got my clear bra put on - did't look that great. I can still see them after the clear bra but not as noticeable.

Maybe you could paint the plugs with the touchup brush before putting them in? Maybe won't be so bad.

Anyone know who on the altima board sells them?

Yeah, I did that (w/ the Grey Lustre touch-up paint). But the plugs still stood out. I might of tried to use a filler or something to get it flush with the bumper, but didn't.

You are much more gracious that I would have been. I simply would have said "I refuse delivery due to failure to meet negotiated terms and walked out". You said DONT and they DID....??? When I got mine I said point blank "If there is 1 item of dealership advertising I will refuse delivery." Didnt have a problem.

Here we go again:

"I know it's illegal, but I don't give a crap"
"When you get caught, just lie to the cops."

Especially with our up and coming generation.

Sad situation really.

I live in Michigan where the front bracket isn't required, but the Max I bought was a DX (dealer exchange) from Wisconsin, which does require the plates.

I took it up with my salesman, and the dealer hooked me up with these plugs free of charge. They painted them to match the body (Grey Lustre), and it looks fine. I've only had the car for a couple weeks, but haven't thought about it until I saw this thread. It looks fine, and really isn't that noticeable.

One thing I did buy was the Nissan rubber floormats - it's muck season here in MI, and I couldn't bear the thought of getting crap all over my new carpet!
