I spent a ridiculous amount of time waxing my car today.

I spent the entire day waxing my car. Literally, the entire day. My wife thinks I am a lunatic.

What I used:
Mothers Clay Bar
Meguairs Cleaner Wax- 1 coat
Meguairs Gold Class Wax- 1 coat
Meguairs Show Car Polish- 1 coat
Meguairs Yellow Wax- 1 coat
30+ cotton terry towels.

It is ridiculously shiny. Pics don't justify what I did today, but here they are.

Also, I took my wheels off to rotate them, but while they are off, I am going to get my center caps re-clearcoated because they are starting to chip. I'm also pondering selling them.......not sure yet.

It better not rain in 2 weeks or I'll

Andy, you're car looks so odd with the stockers on there. I haven't seen it without the RHs, not too bad at all. I'll agree with the shininess, I'm about to do my full on wax too, I've been doing single coats Gold class all winter. I usually go with:

Meguiars wash
Mothers clay bar
Diamond Brite paint sealant
Zaino Z-5 (up to 2 layers)
Zaino Z-2
maybe another layer Zaino Z-2

Takes all day, even with the buffer, but it makes the Grey lustre almost silver in direct light. Congrats on the work, the AZ sun will love it.

I just can't bring myself to spend that much time cleaning anymore. I've been doing the no no and taking it to the car wash I went out this weekend and bought the Mothers Clay Bar and Meguiars Gold Class Wax. I'll be buying the buffers next weekend.

Much respect.

To be 18 again. I remember the days when waxing and detailing were fun. I can't wait for my 1 year old to get a little older so she can experience the fun

Thanks! I've got much respect for your turbo.

I only have to do this extreme waxing session about once a year. Once every 4 months, I'll just throw two coats of wax on for maintenance- usually the show car polish and yellow wax.

It totally sucks. I was up since 5AM doing this intermittently all day. My washing machine is jammed full of waxy towels.

It sucks more and more every time I do it. I'm almost 25 now and I actually get sore from this crap. At this rate, by the time I am 40, I'll probably be forced to take it to the car wash and just let them do it.

If I use the Klasse, is it the same thing as waxing. I mean using both the products, not just the cleaner. Would I have to use a buffer or can I do it by hand?

Yep ur nuts Andy, I was also wondering wtf happened to ur rims. It looks odd cuz were not used to seein ur car w/o the RH. But yeah waxin the car that much does suck I dont have enough terry rags to do that many coats though. I slapped on like 3coats a few weeks ago, it makes cleaning the car sooo much easier, especially drying it! But in the second pic the reflection is like a mirror....looks sweet.

Sheesh! You're not DEAD at 40!

I washed and waxed the max last weekend (one coat). My daughters helped, so it took twice as long as it should, but I still did it.

Caused it to rain several times last week.

good job man!

I don't believe anyone though has topped my obsessiveness well maybe prinzII.. I literally had 9 coats of klasse on my maxima and some P21S. Weather got bad so I couldn't wax my car, but spring is coming soon, so detailing begins again! It's easier when you have over 500 dollars worth of detailing equipment and an orbital buffer, but it's still a lot of work! Detailing definitely makes you aware of your age :P

Everyone should try Klasse!

Where do you buy your Klasse? After doing a bunch of research, I decided to start using it. Now I just need to know wheres the best place to get it.

Thanks

My buddy got hooked on this detailing board and is a nut like you with the cleaning (I'm only good for 2 coats at best ). However, he did give me some good ideas like using Microfiber cloths. These things are absolutely amazing. They can hold up to 8 times their weight in water and are just about the safest material for your paint. The thing is they pull the dirt into the towel so it doesn't scratch your finish.

I waxed my Max this weekend and used only one Microfiber wash cloth for taking off the wax. I just folded in it 4's so I used about 6 "squares" of it (8 total squares front and back). This will definatly cut down on the towel usage. They have more expensive ones, but I picked mine up at Wal*Mart for like $10 for a pair. They have a pack with an orange label with a blue and a bright green one. They are also great for dusting as they trap in the dust into the towel. Give them a try!

Car looks good, but I know what you mean about the pics not doing it justice. You've gotta have respect for photographers who make these cars look they way they do in the ads!

For those of you with a good wax already on your car...

when you are washing it, (and not planning on doing any type of waxing) use the Spray On wax from Eagle One (use with a chamois) when it's time to dry the car off. It of course really doesn't wax your car by any means, but, it has a great drying agent in it. Also, it gives your paint a little bit more shine than if you just washed and dryed.

I'm with you. I did my car last summer with 2 coats. Even in the garage it was hot as hell here in GA and I was flat wore out. After you buy all the products you need to do it right you've spent more than taking it to a good detail shop that does a 5 step process.
For those of you who do it yourself my hats off to you. You should think about doing other peoples cars too you could make some good extra money.

Nice Job

I washed my car yesterday because the nice 60 degree weather gave me the chance to. That alone took about 2 and a half hrs, and that was just to vaccuum and wash, clean the rims, and detail the tires. I started at 11:30, so if I tried to wax my car, I definetly would not had enuff time in the day to finish waxing my car.

Oh well, at least I got to wash it though.

Very, very light ones. It's white though so it hides it well.

I have a 2K3 Super Black. I have light swirl marks but they're not very visible. I would like to find something that totally elliminates swirls.

Liquid Glass is the best for black and other very dark colored cars. After 2 black Max's I'd had enough and went with sterling mist. It's just to much work

But this stuff is the best out there.

Someone told me that you're not supposed to wax the first year you have the car (because of the clear coat finish). Any truth to that?

I'm going to do the standard "try in a small spot" test and go from there. Thanks for the info. I find that McGuiars is too mild.

It is pouring today and the water is beading off like crazy. Now if I could just figure a way out to keep the dirt from building up on my rear bumper......
