Very evenly matched. The Maxima has more low end torque and will have more lower end bark.

The Acura has 260 hp and 232 ft-lbs of torque and weighs 3558 lbs. The Maxima has 255 hp and 246 ft-lbs of torque and weighs 3224 lbs. Knowing this, I think it would be a close race, but since I am a VQ believer a will put my money on the Maxima.

The Max has more like 275lb-ft of torque. Countless dyno's prove this.

to be non bias.....heres a minus for the Maxima....they have better gearing out of their 5spd auto than we do in our 4spd auto....but when they reach gear 3 or 4 (someone check)...that is where they lose most of their power and slowly accelerate after that.

These cars are evenly matched pretty much and it comes down to driver

I'd say the Max would win. A 4 vs a 6cyl?! Now that I'm reminded, who would win, 5.0 Mustang or 2000 Max both fully stock. I'd say the Max because the 5.0 arn't that fast, and I'm not just sayin that because I'm a max lover.

Well i think the Acura TLS is a 6 and not a 4.. I also think the Mustang would win they had 225hp with more torque compared to the 00 maxima's 222hp(i think). The mustang also has more agressive cams and computer..

OK my car must be slow b/c I ran one a few days ago and couldn't pull an inch until around 100. I admit after 100 we were filming through the rear window. I would estimate 4 cars at 120. Of course I had an extra 220 lb passenger and we ran from a roll which is the auto maxima weak spot. So either my car is slow or his folks have a freak tls.

Those passengers make a difference. I had two passengers vs. a Type S
with 4 passengers(friends of mine) on a 35mph roll. I immediately pulled 1/2
car ahead and was a full car ahead by ~80mph. This is with my 97 5spd.
I'm pretty sure he would have been even or pulled on me if he was
less 2 passengers but I'm not complaining about the win!!
2003 Max should take this race!! Money on the Max.

At an 18% drivetrain loss, it's around 260lb-ft at the crank, I was over exhaggerating a bit. Your HP only suggests around 241 at the crank too, so it seems Nissan over rated the HP and under rated the torque.

Yours Could be slower.........

My father in law has a 03 TL-S, I have driven it, and "raced" with it too.

My 6sp is MUCH quicker, and faster on the highway.

But I do have a 6sp, so its not a fair comparison against an auto.

A 6spd with identical mods pulled about 1.5 cars on me from 50-120. I pull on the tls just not until about 100 then it looks like he hit the brakes lol. I trap 96-97 on street tires so this might be a factory freak tls

is this better than underrating the HP but
overrating the torque? which is more usefeul?

I know that when I ease the clutch into first gear without touching the gas and w/o the A/C on, and having it idling forward takes torque. I know that it takes torque to thrust you off the line and into the gears. And I know it takes torque to get that pit of your stomach rush when you floor it.

I'd rather Nissan rated everything correctly. But the common person isn't going to look at torque numbers, all you see on commercials is "how many HP?". So I think it's an advertising ploy.

Then your engine would start looking more like an old mustang 5.0

MAX vs TL

if its auto vs auto, i think TL will have the edge because of the smaller gearing in the first 3 or 4.. i forget the specs.. But manual Max vs a TLs (which is only in 5 speed auto for 2k2 and 2k3) the max definatly beat it. I plan to race my friends TL one day and see who wins (i have an auto).

What about the extra ~30lb-ft of torque that the Maxima has? Not to mention available at lower RPM.

Auto vs. Auto, the TL-S is a bit quicker than the 2K2+ Maxima from 0-110 MPH because of the 5spd auto of the TL-S vs. the 4spd of the Maxima. 3rd gear on the TL-S (70-110 MPH) is awesome....it's all VTEC. If it's close to 70 MPH, I guarantee the TL-S will start pulling then.

There's no doubt that the VQ is a great engine, but the TL-S engine is (dare I say) even more amazing. I love this quote on the TL-S engine in the March '03 Motor Trend from its Executive editor: "The V6 just freaking wails, making all the right noises, with good torque down low and VTEC enhanced power up high."

But it's still a torqueless wonder down low compared to the VQ.

Is it the VQ or Honduh VTEC that's been praised for being one of the, if not the best V6 in the world since 1995? The VQ.

Just kidding around ...but....VQ does own YOU
