2k2 max, 99 modded max and Cadillac STS

The other day me (2k2) and my buddy in his 99 heavilly modded max were coming bac from the club in Chicago. We stopped at a 3 lane stop light and this guy in Cadillac STS (dont know what year it only said 32 valve on the back). The road was slippery since it was raining all day out here but we all still decided to race. The light turns green and I slowely press my gas pedal and then at about 25 I gunn it (big mistake) My buddy and I start spinning our tires and the guy in the cadillac just takes off, finally I gripped the road a lil and startd pulling on him but he was already about 3 cars in front.
Now here is my question. How fast are these cadillacs anyways and would he have beat me on a dry run? The only thing that pi$$ed me off was the stuck up look on his face. He seemed to be very confident that he was going to smoke us.

Actually my buddy's 99 max is almost as fast as my 2k2 I only beat him by a car, he has all the bolt ons possible I was pretty confident that I could beat that car. I know its got 300hp and 295 tq but it also weights 4,000 lbs and its a fwd car so I dont think it'll take off as fast as the max can.

O-60 in about 6.5 seconds, 1/4 mile ET of about 14.7 seconds and topspeed @ 150mph (governed, I think). Don't sleep on them.

Good to know I was actually arguing with one of my friends about that. He said that no matter what the cadillac STS would kill my max, I guess he was referring to the HP and TQ but didnt consider the weight factor.

The STS is a very powerful and quick car, but it's limited by the same basic problems as the Maxima (FWD). The weight only really plays a role to a certain point...after that it's all drag coefficient and HP...and the STS is equal to the Max (I believe) in drag and superior in HP. Off the line you'll get it, but I have seen them pull on 4th Gen Max's at the strip. I don't recall having seen one run against a 5.1 Gen Max...Would have to be pretty even to about 70-80 MPH "I think".

STS's are quick. Nothing like a high-revving V8. They sound fabulous when you rev then up to 7000 rpm. However, they are heavy, a 3.5L maxima might be able to take one.

These things are monsters on the highway. You don't want to race one on a roll from a high speed.

The 3.5's are monsters from a roll as well, too many people underestimate just how fast the 6spd really is. 14.2 vs 14.7 is a good 1.5-2 car distance in the 1/4 mile. Those caddy's have some ***** but not up to par with the 3.5 6spd, especially if the 3.5 is modded.

Good point!! I think its the most powerful FWD car in production. That limitation aside, I'd like to have one myself but the depreciation is TERRIBLE!!! They seem to go from $50G (new) to $32G in value after only one year!!!

Hey, Ive been driving a 96 cadillac STS all winter and this thing is FAST. Dont underestimate them at all. The top end is rediculous. Acceleration is very good too. The caddy definately feels faster than my 2k auto but cant compare them to a 5 speed max or 2k2+ max. Only thing that sucks about it is that the handling is terrible and it has real floaty suspension, however, it is very comfortable to drive. Anyways, its a 96, and get this, its only got 19,xxx miles on it! Its like the bastard car of my family(my dad drives a 2k3 STS and my mom has a 2k2 pathfinder) so it just sits in our driveway and my parents lent it to me for the winter so i didnt have to drive the max(winter in new england was rough this year). Heres a pic of the beast.

I had a Deville rental car for a weekend. I now fully comprehend what it means to "ride like a Caddy". But even with 300hp under the hood the car was no match at all for blubyu2k2's 2k2 autotragic. From a roll or a stop.

They're not fun cars to play around in either. They're full of anti-fun gagetry and refuse to let you make tire smoke even with the TCS turned off. They're not going to roast the tires in the rain because of this so be very careful if you try to race one from a stop on wet ground.

turn tcs off and floor it and they will spin their tires . Maybe not the newer ones. I havent really driven my dads 2k3, but the 96 can roast em up pretty good. I was rollin doin around 30mph one night, had traction off, and put it to the floor and the tires broke loose. Its not as fun as most cars, but i still got a grin on my face everytime i put the pedal to the floor. gotta love the V8's hehe

i had a run in with one. its me and a friend in my max, and a kid around my age, 18 or so, pulls up in an STS (prolly his moms) and we went at it, since conditions were good and no hazards were present. he had me off the line and i pulled about half a car around 30 and it stayed that way til about 60-70 and he started to reel me in, but i shut down down at 80 and my front was at his front door. i was suprised with its top end pull, so i agree that it would be a monter on the highway.

mods are in sig. i am a 97' auto
