How does the maxima respond to mods? (mainly bolt ons)

When I had my 4 cylinder prelude, getting any performance increase from mods was hard to come by, excluding forced induction of course. It could be done, but the most effective bang for the buck was CAI/headers/exhuast which would run about a grand and result in maybe 9-10 HP.

I did searches, when it was working, and havent really found a concrete answer. Whats the best bolt on mod(s) for the money, this 'franken' intake deal? When I've seen pictures of it, it appears to a short RAM intake and not necessarily a cold air intake. Anyways, What kind of measurable gains have people gotten? What other mods are recommended that have given the best proven results?
