Change out your A/T fluid. I just did it today and it provided much smoother shifts. Used Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF.

Can you really feel a difference when changing to synthetic ATF, or is it just in the head?

It makes a tremendous difference in smoothness and shifting plus the transmission is noticiably quieter. I switched 2 97s to AMSOIL Synthetic ATF, 1 with 51k and 1 with 134k. Absolutely no problems or oil leaks. I evaluated installing an oil cooler but decided not to as AMSOIL Synthetic reduces operational temp of tranny 20 to 50 degrees F. If I remember right the oil cooler that I could squeeze onto my car would reduce the temp by about 8 degrees F. Didn't make sense to do it. Hope this helps.

When is it recommended to change tranny fluid? I've got a 2000 Max and I'm at 35,000 miles. I just changed my plugs out today and that made a big difference in overall performance my old plugs were fried. Also would you know when the EGR valve is supposed to be changed? Thanks.

I just remembered that I brought my car back to the dealership for the slippage between 1-2, 2-3. They had to drop the pan so they changed the fluid. Would I really feel a difference?

I just let out the ATF in the pan twice every 30K miles just to be safe. All I do is:

1. Drain out the ATF from the pan.
2. Replace with the same amount that came out.
3. Drive around for a week.
4. Repeat steps 1 and 2.

I asked my mechanic about flushing and he says it's not really needed as long as you take the steps above. The Civic I used to have went 239,00 miles on the same automatic transmission with the same methods and never had a problem.

For $20-something for a case of ATF, why not just do it this way and that often? You get smoother shifting and you're better insuring the longevity of your transmission.

Wow 35,000 on a 2000. I have a 2002 with 27,000 miles. I need to quit driving so much. I'll go ahead and replace my Tranny fluid aswell. Thanks

vb upgrade--go from 0.6 second shifts to 0.2 or so seconds. very hard on tranny but saves lots of time shifting--definitely need tranny cooler and maybe rebuild beefier bands/clutches

dont forget a high stall torque converter for better launches

Yeah I got my car exactly a year ago and it had 23,000 miles. I was originally trying to get a 4th gen. But they wanted like $16,000 for a 97-99. That was ridiculous. I got my car for $16,000 with absolutely nothing in it or on it. I have slowly been adding to it. This car didn't even have floor mats. I am so happy I found my car and am very satisfied with my purchase, even though I'm still paying on it.

15000 for fluid change.
32000 for tranny flush

I opened the tranny pan and cleaned it up at 34000, the magnets were dirty.

vb upgrade actually putting less work onto the tranny clutch bands by letting it shift faster. It took away it's stock luxury shifting by increasing tranny fluid flow. you can check out my homepage and see Y2KevSE's tranny wear with re-cal vb. it is less than my stock vb.

now, high stall toruq converter.....that's what really hurt your tranny.

Remember it is a rather small cooler as we are restricted on space. If the Synthetic ATF reduces friction that much imagine what it must be doing for the life of the transaxle and tranny components.
