Intake : Service Engine Light

I recently just installed a Place Racing cold air intake for my 2001 maxima gxe, and i noticed that the service engine light is on. My friend told me that when u mod the car, just about 99% of the time the light will come on. I was just wondering if this is normal, or should i get my car checked for an emissions leak.

time to find new friend, yours has no idea what he is talking about. Many people on these forums have lots of mods and the check engine does not come on.

As for your problem, did you drop the MAF when you installed the intake? is everything tightened properly? The MAFs on the 00-01s are not as bad as the 02+, but they are still sensitive. Are you running a K&N filter? if so was it HEAVILY oiled?

Easy there 92, he didn't say his car was in limp mode, he said there was an SES light on. Take your car to a local auto shop and have them diagnose the ECU and tell you what the problem is, then have them delete it. I took my car to Autozone when I had an SES light and they did that for free, but if the light comes back on, then there is something seriously the matter, and then you start really troubleshooting.

A hose we used had a kink in it and it was restricting the flow of oxygen to the engine. I just replaced it with a curved hose to fix the problem.
