I don't have experience with the Silver Stars, but I'm very happy with the Xtreme whites from PIAA. They match my 2k3 hids very well.

I would definitely suggest PIAA Xtreme WHites. I put some sealed-bulb (old school lights) Silverstars into my 1985 Audi GT (work car) and they didn't impressme at all. Granted for the Audi they looked goos, but I would not put them on my Max. I have the PIAA XtremeWhite H3 fogs and they match-up with the HID very very nice. This weekend I also swapped out the clearance bulbs, replacing with the polargs, and now all the front lighting is in sync with one another...I'm just waiting on an order for the PIAA XtremeWhite 9005 high-beams.

My friend has the Silverstars, and for a while I had the Xtreme whites. I would highly reccomend the PIAA, much more light on the ground and much better looking color.

The 9005 bulbs are not as white as the H3s in the Xtreme White series. Take a look at this pic and you will see that they have a hint of yellow in them. Better and brighter than stock, but not as good as the fogs

I have the SilverStars in my '02 and find that they are a tad whiter but do have some yellow in them versus my HIDs.

I might be switching to something else pretty soon.

Where is the best place to purchase the PIAA extreme whites? What's the average price for the H4 bulbs?

PIAA Extreme Whites do not hold up. I switched to Silverstar H4s and so far I'm pleased with them. I also like the fact that they cost a whole lot less than the PIAAs. We'll see how long they last.

I have Silverstars and I like them...very bright and not icky oem yellow. PIAA bulbs are nice but ive heard too many stories of them blowing out all the time and at $60+ a pair its not worth it if im going to replace them all the time.

I just forgot to turn off the caps.

My anger was directed towards the fact the walmarts were like 15 dollars and the piaas are upwards of 60$ and I couldnt tell the difference.

That would be my father's car. I have to work for my money (like the rest of the folks on the .org) so I buy mine on ebay. Also, I have never had a PIAA blow on me yet. On the other hand, other cheapie bulbs I have bought (silverstars included) have blown out on me a few times. After that, i gave in and got the PIAAs and never regretted it since.

It's probably not worth running a poll, but I'll bet your experience represents the minority and not the majority of PIAA owners. Regrettably, I lost a PIAA H4 after less than a year of use. And I don't do that much night driving. Given how expensive PIAAs are, I doubt I'll be buying them again any time soon.

I agree y2kse, ........PIAA's blow! I bought two sets of the superplasma's and they both blew out before 6 months.

I've got experience with Silverstars, the Xtreme whites, and the most expensive Wal-mart brand bulb. I had the Xtreme whites for about 10 months before one blew. I bought the Wal-mart light because I needed something to replace my blown light. Looked absolutely terrible compared to my other Xtreme white headlight and fog lights.
I then bought some Silverstars and isntalled one to see how it compared to the other Xtreme white. It was a white light, but it was definitely yellowish compared to the Xtreme white. I put in both Silverstars and while they arent as bright or good looking as the Xtremes they matched my fogs well. One thing I really do not like about them is that the light on the ground now looks a lot more yellow. With the Xtreme whites I had a very nice HID-like color on the road, now its just boring.
If I had my camera I'd take some pics of all these bulbs, but I dont have it right now. Hopefully this helps some of you out.

The difference in brightness and tint between the PIAA Extreme Whites and the Silverstars is practically nonexistent. I still have PIAA Extreme White H3s and they're a perfect match for the Silverstar H4s. In fact, with my H3s turned on, I'd defy anyone looking at my H4s to tell that they're not PIAAs.
