AE headlights?

just an opinion question from everyone, i was thinking of installing the AE headlights on my 2001 SE since the HIDs are so much money, anyone have an opinion on the AE lights?
also does anyone know if i could purchase the AE engine cover anywhere?

The AE engine cover can be purchased as a local dealship most probably a special order. If u got some patience and time to kill, then make ur own AE headlights. Remove and open up the stock 1z, get some black paint and slap it on, many have done this and it turned out alright, just be careful were u get the paint. If not then just order the headlights from the dealer as well.

www.courtesyparts.com you can get the AE cover there. If i do have the money then I'l buy the HID but right now I'm lookin into the AE. I think they give the car a more aggresive look.

www.courtesyparts.com you can get the cover there. I'f I have enough money (which I won't) I'll buy the HID's. But right now I'm lookin' into buyin' the AE headlight. I think they give the car a more aggresive look and they are only around $225 compared to over $1000 for the HID's.

I personally like the more agressive look of the AE lights on the 2000/01's over the stock lights. See my homepage for what they look like on a 2000.

Just call the local nissan dealer and order the engine cover. Its a bit pricey for a cover, but if u wanna dress it up obviously its ur call. It a little over $100 for the cover.

I bought the AE Headlights, and I like them well enough, but I like Y2kSESteve's better because if you look, the chrome on the side of the light is painted where as mine is not. I second trying to make them yourself, and if you screw up you can always just head to the dealer and order a set of AE's

So, basically you take apart the headlight and paint the inside of the holder or the headlamp itself? Thanks.

You paint the chrome inner part which is seperate from the rest of the headlight.

You live in NJ dude, avoid the HID like the plague. Go for the AE, they are cool.

Here's in direct sunlight on a black car. Got them for about $100 a piece from my salesman at the dealer. Definately an alternative to the pricy HID units, and a 5 minute swap

The HID should burn cooler than halogens, High temp will work fine... like i said IMO the flat will show up better i used gloss and its really shiny and less noticable.

Heat it up, the screws and the area you're trying to separate. The oven, a hairdryer, or a heatgun work well. Just be careful if you decide to use the oven.

youre the man steve! when you paint the inside is it just the separate chrome part of the light you have to paint or the other seperate part with the diamond where the bulb goes?

look closer or even take a flathead and slowly slip it in between the black part and the actual light, sort of like installing clear corners, youll see the glue or whatever it is

THe chrome part comes apart and that is what you paint. There is also a notch between the the two parts of the headlight where you can slide a flathead screwdriver into. Then just work it all the way around.

You can buy some if you're paranoid about it. I live in AZ, so moisture isnt much of an issue, plus there was a ton in there to begin with. Phatman5050 made a writeup after I did his and it should be in the How-to's at the top of the page.

I just did mine Friday night, let them dry overnight, and put them back together Saturday morning. I'm very happy with them. I used a gloss black from auto zone also but it turned out more gray after I let it dry. So i went to home depot and bought the Rust Oleum high temp. black. It's much better IMO.

I live in New Orleans and it's very very humid (usually 100% humidity) so I lined it with silicone. Silicone II is supposedly the best. You can get it at any hardware store and it comes in a tube. Just cut the tip off and squeeze it out onto a plastic plate or something and use your fingers to apply it. It has a pretty strong smell to it and there is a good chance you will get dizzy/nauseous if you're head is within a foot of it -- just a little warning.
