Navigation

Hello everyone. I currently have a 2002 VW Beetle Sport (Turbo), please save me the laughs, I know. I am selling my Beetle and I am thinking very seriously about getting a Maxima SE. I will be getting a used Maxima, and I figure the chances of me finding one EXACTLY like I want are slim. I have my eye on a Blue 2001 SE 20th Anniversary Edt. that is loaded up like I want with the exception of Navigation. I was wondering if I took a complete navigation system out of a salvaged Maxima would I be able to hook it into the 2001? I would just continue to look for exactly what I want, but I know I can get a deal on a very low mileaged SE. I also figure I am safer with a 2001 because I won't be targeted for HID thefts. Thanks in advance for the replies

i dont think the 2k1's were available with navigation, were they? I'm pretty sure you would be able to make a 2k2 navi unit fit with some work

I have looked at many many Maxima's lately, and I don't think that it was an option on the '01s. From what I can see, the temperature controls on the non-navigation cars are where the navigation on cars with that option. The navigation has the climate control buttons built into the right side, so I am hoping it will work, but wanted to get some more input. Unfortunately the search option is down, so I thought I might as well post.

It's damn near impossible to add the stock navigation to even a 2k2+ maxima, not to mention prohibitively expensive.

You'd be much better off getting a complete in dash unit from like Pioneer. At least it's DVD based and gives you a better stereo system and DVD playback capability at the same time.

Thanks for the reponse MetaOrbit. I figured I'd end up sinking close to a grand into the switch, but I am one of those people who thinks that it would be worth it to get what I want. I may hold out and see if I can find a car with it already on there

if you are trying to fit the nevagation from 2002 to 2001.. it will cost you more then a grand... the unit itself it more then that... you are better off getting aftermarket....

good luck on car hunting..

Agreed. Off the bat you'll have to purchase that BOSE head unit along with the Navi as the Navi screen works the climate control and the stereo head unit (DIN) rests underneath. On non-Navi Maximas, the stereo (2DIN) is located where the Navi would be, with the climate control underneath.

If you want Navi on a non-Navi Max, follow Meta's advice; it'll be much cheaper and better.

Peace.

I have actually found the complete Navigation unit out of a wrecked '02 for $475, but if its gonna be a major PITA, I might look into an aftermarket unit, although the ones I have seen aren't visually appealing

Kinda off topic but has anyone tried to see if the Navigation will run a burnt disc? Just curious.
