What is faster? 99 5spd SE or 01 5spd SE with 16" rims?

Help me settle a bet I have with a firnd of mine. He does not believe me that a 00-01 5 spd SE with the 16" rims is faster than a 99 5 spd SE. I think this because of a thread I read a while back involving dynos etc...Can anyone shed light on this subject from real world experience and not math formulas? Also if both were auto what would be faster?

Also I the 00-01 SE with 17"s is slower than 99 SE just because of the rims..would that mean that if both cars had the same 18" rims on them than the 00-01 would be faster?

Hey I got this off of EdMunds.com These times are usually taken from Car and Driver or Road and Track tests. I dont know if they are manual or Automatic but It clearly looks like manual. I also dont know if they have 16z. Hope this helps you out...

0-60mph Maxima SE Times
99- 6.6 (YES 6.6 Dont believe me?? check it out for yourself)
01- 6.7

stock vs. stock the 00-01's are faster, in top speed.
The 99's are quicker, in acceleration.
In the 2001 brochure, Nissan states the 01 is the fastest Maxima to date. You can look that up.

I saw some tests that were even better than 6.6...I'm a 4th Gen Maxima believer!

with the 01 having almost identical times (according to your sources) I would imagine that by putting lighter wheels on the 2k1, you could have a slight edge IF you two are of equal driving skill.

but of course (regarless of wheels) those two cars are so close that it will come down to who is the better driver --- don't you get tired of people saying that? I do.

maybe because I'm a bad driver! 2.5 second 60 foot times!

If I could cut that to 2.2 I should get a 14.5 run

If the 99 is quicker in acceleration try a 40mph rolling start.

Stock '99 and stock '00, both auto, the 4th gen will win at any speed to at least 80. I found that out the hard way.

Didn't Nissan also claim 2002 and 2003 Maximas had 255 hp.

Im pretty sure it ws the '95 model that made it to 60mph in 6.6 seconds (Motor Trend June '95 i think, top speed 142 ). After that they only got a wee bit heavier each year.

Overall I think it's too close to call and will come down to specific drivers and cars.

Hold up...my friend from NY (busterdawg22 on the org) raced me, my car was (still is 2k1 auto just not bone stock anymore) bone stock 2k1 auto, his was 95 auto w/ Frankencar intake. I beat him every race...we ran about 6 times in the same day...even switched cars (me drive his, and him drive mine) and he still beat me driving my car. We were both torque braking and manually shifting. I was completely stock then. Now he has a 5th gen muffler from a 2k1 AE along with his Frankencar...dunno how big of a difference thatll make, but thats what hes got now. Anyway...his 95 wouldnt hang at all, in acceleration or anything. not knockin the 4th gens...kuz thats what i wanted b4 i got my 5th gen and i drove his all day last time he was here i loved it, and i even raced some **** talkin guy in a 5spd Geo Storm that said his **** could hang with the 95 max, needless to say i stomped his *** with ease. Of course then he went around tellin everybody that he was hangin with it and didnt get beat that bad...i hate **** talkers...

Math formulas and physics directly apply to the real world. The whole point of those write-ups are to isolate the driver (by far the biggest variable) and look at just the cars themselves.

So if you're asking whose car is faster, the answer is that the 5th Gen will probably have a slight edge. But when you factor the driver back in, it's anybody's ball game.
