G35 - is it all that good?

i'm considering the G35 coupe...

is it that much faster than a maxima? what about the rear wheel drive "advantage"? The style looks aggressive but it's still a Nissan and it still has the same engine at least in my mind.

i'm lost on this one. dealer websites don't seem to help any.

It is quicker than the max due to the 25 more hp, im not sure about weight, but I would think the coupe is lighter. RWD makes a huge difference off the line. Plus with RWD you wont have torque steer, which gets annoying. If I had the choice I'd definitely get the coupe.

If I'm not mistaken, the weight of the coupe and max are comparable, depending on the options load onto either...

RWD will make a big diff when taking off, plus as mentioned by VQMan, no more torque steer...

If you get a lot of snow though, look out!!!

I'm looking to get the 6sp leather...looks real sleek...plus those Brembos!!!...

Test drive one and you'll find out. I didn't think too much of it until I test drove one. Seats felt really nice. Suspension, power, clutch, shifter are all improved. Pop-up Navi is nice too. Maybe in a few years.

I drove it a few months back..There was no noticable difference in power from that to my Altima...I know you will feel no difference from that to the max.

RWD the car handles wonderfully...That you will notice.

If yuou ask me I would much rather get a 350Z, I think it looks much better.. the G35 styling is already starting to get abit old, because its so extreme

Funny, most people I talk to and myself think the Z's styling is more extreme than the G35 Coupe.

yea the 350z is much more extreme then the coupe, the coupe does 0-60 in 5.5 seconds as per car and drivers last test they said "it was faster then any 350z they have tested" thats saying a lot

I agree. The 350Z seems more extreme to me. The G35 has better proportions IMO and you get a usable trunk and a small back seat.

test drove one few month ago... I thought it was one of the best car that I have ever driven... until yesterday when my buddy pulled into my drive way with his new M3.... but don't really think M3 and G35 is really in the same class.

If I was serious about buying the G35 or 350z, FIRST thing I would be doing it reading all the magazine articles I could find. Then I would be test driving them.

To spend $30k+, asking this type of question on a maxima board is sorta odd.

Looking at that picture should answer every question.
I went to Infinity AGAIN last Sunday. They got 8 coupes in, on Sat, and by Sunday 7 were sold, and the only one left was loaded, like I want, but with an auto. . I would give my Max up for that car in a second, if I wasnt losing 6k on my car...

A good friend of mine just bought one and having driven it many times I have to say it's QUITE nice. They are selling like hot cakes around here and given Infiniti kisses your a$$ with loaners etc. I'd definitely buy one over the Z.

What's the difference (powerwise and performancewise) between the G35 Coupe and G35 Sedan?

I'm currently in the market for a new car. I was first thinking about an Altima. I test drove one as well as a Maxima and decided that I liked the Max better. But I've been looking at these G35 threads and like G35 Sedan. I need to go and drive one, but it looks like the Sedan is slightly more powerful than the Max and it has rear wheel drive.

Sedan= 260hp/260ftlbs
Coupe= 280hp/275ftlbs

From a handling standpoint, the sedan holds its own, but one look at the coupe should give you an idea what it is capable of. The awsome thing about these cars, is that with all season tires they are pretty good in the snow!!!

I love my max, but RWD is great!! If you test drive you will definitly want one!!

KLOOGY - I agree the coupe looks nasty in white! Especially with those rims!

I wonder if you switch ecus w/ the coupe/4-door and get the 280hp?

You know what needs to be done then as you already have the 19's.

I am sure the ecu makes up for a lot of the HP, but that exhaust is just beautiful!!

Yeah, I'm wondering why the Sedan has less output and what can be done to it to bring it to coupe "specs".

I think I will go drive one the first chance I get. The Sedan, that is. The coupe looks nice, but I have a family to haul around.

I sure wish they'd make a RWD Maxima. I just like the way the Max looks (5th gen).

I only say that because the these two cars couldn't be more similar. I can't see Nissan going to great mechanical lengths to detune the 4-door 20hp. Maybe it's a ratings thing only? But if the ecu works for the 4-door, then maybe it will work for the maxima........did I just say that? hehe

Like some of the guys said you want feel that much of a difference in acceleration, my wifes auto 350 is only a tad quicker than my 03 auto. Her best time was 14.3 and mine was 14.67 in the 1/4 both autos. I can usually get here oin takeoff but she comes back at 30 and have me slightly by 50.

Apparently Infiniti likes to over rate the hp on their vehicles also.

I friend of mine had his 6sp coupe dyno a few weeks ago and the rating came out to about 225hp! Don't have the exact numbers but I could probably get a hold of them.

.37 seconds is more than a tad quicker, is her R/T kinda slow? because she should have you off the line with no problem. Definatly switch cars and make a few runs. With a good launch you might be able to get the Z to around a 14.2. Even if you don't feel it, half a second is a pretty big difference (ie - a few car lengths in a 1/4 mile race).

We have played around on the streets before and I can get her out of the hole alot and sometimes she gets me, but when I get her she comes back and have me by a little bit on several occassions and this is even when we swap. Her torque kicks in a at a higher rpm than ours so down low my torque gets her slightly. If you can launch a FWD car that RWD advantage is negilible to me and once your rolling it really doesnt make a difference. 350 autos are running times like that guys with manuals are running high 13'3 to low 14's. 14.2 in a 350 auto is hard bud trust me 14.3-14.6 is norm check out 350z.com. I remember when I had my 93 300ZX 92-94 Maxima SE's use to get me by a bit often and I consider myself a pretty good manual driver

why is this odd? he wants to us to compare it to a Maxima, as if he is also considering a Maxima.

It's not like he was asking Maxima owners for advice between choosing between a G35 and a 330ci.

It seems to me ur wife got the better end of the deal as far as cars go here, but then again, if i had a girlfriend or wife who liked to drive cars as hard as me, i'd get her a ferrari
