Did you lease or buy your Max?
Just wanted to see how people are getting the Maxes now. Not sure if this was covered before, but there are some new names on the .Org so I figure it's worth a shot.

I bought, makes sense because i plan on keeping this car for as long as possible. Usually leasing only makes sense if you are a business and the lease can be expensed (therefore is tax deductable) or if you trade often. I swore I would never lease, but that was a mistake with my wife's last car. We bought her '99 cougar. Two years later we had a baby and needed to trade it in. I worked up the numbers, and it turned out it would have been cheaper to lease even with the mileage hit. I learned the hard way you need to sit down and run the numbers. If you decide based on monthly payments you aren't doing enough homework.

Ask me where the money I saved on my wife's leased truck went; I have no clue, and we didn't have much of a down payment for the next car.
Even if you don't plan to keep a car for a long time, IMO owning gives you the option to keep it or get rid of it if need be. I have a friend that was "only" a grand from totaling her car and had to keep it til the end of the lease. She'd never kept the car had she owned it. And if you think those places that "help" you buy out of your lease are a good deal, are those places not-for-profit???

I bought mine and plan to keep it a long time (I've never leased). I had my 91 for 10 years and 103k miles (trouble free). Sold it myself and bought AE new and have app 20k on it now. I agree with others that leasing makes sense if you want to change cars often and/or for business.

Bought my '03 Max outright. Have never leased. I hope to keep this car till it(or me) is dust. This will probably be my last new car as a good used car is really the best way to go financially. I only bought this new because it was a car that I've wanted for 8 years and when they dropped the 3.5V6 in it in '02 and I saw the new Altima(crap) and the '04 Maxima(barf) at the Philly auto show, I knew this was the Maxima that I HAD to have. I'll probably start shopping for a used loaded '03 SE 6sp in 3-5 years as a second car(yes I love driving it THAT much), provided this one proves to be reliable.

I bought my 2k GXE used outright after trading in my old 98 Accord. I would have liked to buy a new car but the insurance rates are just ridiculous ($4500+) for a new car. I'm probably going to keep the max for at least three years until I am over 25 when insurance premiums take a big drop. Then who knows maybe I'll buy new or maybe not. It is satisfying to have a car that I got for less than half of its original price that still has at least 2/3rds of its life remaining ahead, even though the paint job may not be perfect :-)

bought..uh...financed
I put around 500miles per week, so leasing was not an option.. and anyway i like keeping cars until they get too expensive and frustrating to repair... Had a 95 Eagle summit with 110,000 when it started to go south... what? you never heard of an Eagle summit?
I figure if a cheap chrysler can last 110,000, a well made nissan will last close to twice that.

bought brand new at 7 miles. IMHO you should only lease cars that are pretty high up there (Porsche, BMW, Benz, etc.) so you dont have to cry when some stupid moron rear ends you... (well i still cry when some a$$ scratches my max.. but oh well...)
Maximas are meant to be bought and modded to our desires.

Now leasing a Civic is a different matter. $200/mo out the window for the sake of reliable transportation is acceptable, imho. besides that ~$7200 end of 36-month term total is nearly equivalent to the depreciation of plenty of cars, Max included.

I buy all of my vehicles including both of my maximas.
I think that it only makes sence to lease if you are keeping the car for 3 years or less. if you move from new car to new car every 2 or 3 years you get killed on the trade-in in you buy the car.
