To get a Max or not?

Here is my story, I'm 17 and own a Toyota Avalon (worth about 10k). I want to get a new car. The max world be 19949 minus my trade. The dealer advertises the car as a 2003 Maxima...Description Automatic(Q:I know why am I going auto A:can't drive stick)Sunroof,Leather,AC,PW,PL,PRE DRIVEN,CD,Keyless and much more.... I called the dealer up and he said that it was new and doesn't have miles on it. I'm wondering if the 2k3 still has auto tranny problems because seeing i'm 17 it's going to be pushed? Also doesn't this seem like a really low price for a 2k3 Max with said options. And if u guys have any comments or advice help me out.

I'm trying to fix my big fault not having a Max

Thanks,

Hopeful Owner of a 2k3

Robert

I love my 03...just got it a week ago...power galore!!

I am pretty sure the quirks from the 02's are ironed out of the 03's...but only time will surely tell!

Yeah I plan to go to college but my I will get a schloarship and my parents are gonna pay for the rest. Plus I had a good job and saved and the Maxima would take all that and I would have to get another job! But for the 3.5VQ with everything it's worth it!

i would maybe look into a 2k2 instead. save you some money and its always good to have extra money, but its up to you. i am not going to tell you to get a manual and you will regrett an auto, but................. more than 85% of auto drivers here wish they had manual. but good luck on finding your car, the max is definatly a good investment. me being around the same age as you can tell you that the reliability work out great for being young.

or on the forum someone's got a 97 SE with Leather, sunroof and a sound system for 12k. Plus it's got a body kit, exhaust, upgraded clutch and a supercharger. That sounds better cause I get a faster car and 8k in my pocket. Plus he did an enginge swap and the new engine has got 48k mi and the car has 97k on it.

I just wanted to know your opionion.

Thanks,

Robert

be very careful buying a used modded car. that means theres a good chance it was beat on.
especially if its boosted

I got to admit i am leaning very much toward the 97 Se w/SC that would be a fun to drive car and he's got all the mods i want done. It's a sweet car and even though he probably beat on it he did a lot of replacement parts recently like belts, clutch and complete suspension kit.

Personally, I'd say keep the Avalon until you graduate college and then jump into something better than a Maxima. But if you do get a Maxima before college, don't let it distract you from your schoolwork. (Damn!! I feel old saying that!!)

Just my $.02

no offense but with the Avalon i'm already distracted from school. And I wouldn't be pouring money into mods since it would already have everything I wanted

Don't get the boosted Max, specially since you're going to college. Look around for a used 02 or 03 Maxima. Atleast with that you'll have a year or two of warranty in case something brakes.
