Advice on Max Purchase, Please

Hey guys--

Well, I've had a 93 SE (best car ever), a 95 GLE, and I'm thinking about a 2K2 SE. Charcoal with dark grey leather (unfortunately no bose or climate control), but an awesome ride. I'm looking at $19K plus tax (converting from cloth to leather is 750 of that, so it'll be new leather). I've read through the FAQs and have been on this board many times, but wanted to see what your opinions were.

My main concern were the threads about paint and tranny slippage. I can buy a 5 year/70K warrant (on top of the 28K miles it already has) for $1500, but I'm thinking not, as my previous experience is that they run to 120K plus miles before any real work has to be done.

Also, have heard that the head unit is the same bose or no bose. Are bose speakers the only difference between the two?

Thanks for any input.

I'm in the same boat as you gsspence. I currently have a 92 SE with 120,000 miles on it and I'm looking to get a 2002 SE as well. I just can't find any with leather! If I were you I'd probably pass on the extended warranty for a Maxima, I would have NEVER needed one for my 92. I might have to do what you're doing and just get a Maxima with cloth and convert it to leather.

Just bought a 2002 SE 6 speed with sunroof for $17,500. So you're in the ballpark.

Thanks--

Well, the one I was considering Friday night doesn't look near as good in the daylight. Whole rear bumper needs to be painted just about, and one of the wheels was scared on the perimeter as someone apparently didn't know how to parallel park. Also, two hail dings in the roof. If I'm dropping $20K on a car that's only 2 years old with 28K miles, I expect it to be in pretty good condition. Will keep the hunt alive...

Thanks for all of your inputs....
Greg
