Correct Off-Set and Tire Sizes for 17x7.5, 17x8 and 18x8 Rims

I want to get new rims for my 2K2 Max. I used this web site to figure out what the new offset should be:

wheel offset

I also "ran the numbers" for OEM tire/wheel sizes.

Can someone verify that the information I have gathered is right? I don't want a situation where my wheels rub when I turn (on the inside) or to have the wheels extend out from the car more than the OEM offset amount where the wheel will hit the edge of the fender.

OEM 17" Nissan SE Rim
17"x7.0" Rim
Offset=45
Tire Size = 225/50/17 Total Wheel Height = 656.8

OEM Nissan GLE Rim
17"x7.0" Rim
Offset=40
Tire Size = 215/55/17 Total Wheel Height = 668.3

17"x8.0" Rim
Wheel Offset=58
Tire Size = 245/45/17 Total Wheel Height = 652.3
Tire Size = 255/45/17 Total Wheel Height = 661.3

17"x7.5" Rim
Wheel Offset=51
Tire Size = 245/45/17 Total Wheel Height = 652.3
Tire Size = 255/45/17 Total Wheel Height = 661.3

18"x8.0" Rim
Wheel Offset=58
Tire Size = 245/40/18 Total Wheel Height = 653.2
Tire Size = 255/40/18 Total Wheel Height = 661.2

Thanks in advance!

I think you're offsets are a little too high in the non stock configurations. They should be between 32mm (for the larger widths, 9 and higher. 35mm is usually fine for 8", 8.5") and 45mm, IMHO. If you go with larger offsets than 45mm, especially with the wider rim widths, you may cause rubbing on the inside of the fenderwell. On the flip side, smaller offsets (less than 32mm) may be too aggressive.

I am a little confused. For example, if I were to go with an 8 inch rim, and used a 35mm offset, that would push the outside edge of the rim out by almost an inch as compared to OEM SE rims. As it is, the SE rim is pretty far out. The numbers I listed in my earlier post would keep the outside of the wheel at the same position as the stock rim. In the example of an 8 inch rim, at what point/offset value would I start rubbing?

True. Remember about the inside though. If you go 18x8 with 45mm offset you'll be .5 inch wider on each side compared to stock, which should be ok. Going with a larger offset with 18x8 I feel will take you too much to the inside which may cause rubbing. The outside should be fine in that case. BTW, here is mine. It's 35mm offset and 18x8. Compared to stock, it's the same distance on the inside (approximately, it's really 2.7mm more to the inside) but about an inch (approximately, 0.5 " + 10mm) more aggressive on the outside however still not enough to rub the fender on the outside. I still have about 5 - 10 mm left to go before I rub on the outside. This means I could theoretically go with a 30mm offset with the same width without rubbing on the outside.

Thanks for the info. This really helps me out a lot. I guess the question really comes down to this: With the OEM SE 17" rim, how much distance is there on the inside of the rim before it starts to rub? If we knew the answer to that question, then we could figure out all of our offsets from that value . . .

Any thoughts?

I agree. I've never really taken a look at the clearance on the inside so I've tried to keep the inside clearance as close to stock as possible. You see, the thing is if you're going to cut it close with the rim width/offset you also have to factor in the tire widths too. Going with very wide tires ( => 245) may increase your rubbing chances especially if you go with a larger offset/width choice.
