Micro Filter replacement, part missing?
Micro Filter replacement, part missing?
So after I replaced the filter, I took a closer look at the instructions, and the first thing you are supposed to do:
(1) Remove lower glove box finsher. (3 clips)
I don't have one of those, is it missing, or are the instructions wrong?
here's a link to the instructions

Have you finished the replacement? Any problems with the upper left corner of the glove box assembly coming loose from the dash? I am not sure what is holding it in place, but have taken out all screws.
Mine is missing too. Not a big deal though. You can't see it anyway...
jjs--the top left corner will pop out when you tug on it just a little. I just got through replacing mine and it was no problem. Took about 10 minutes.

I've taken mine out from my 2k2...I posted me experience with it and the discrepency with the clips and the six screws you need to remove...
If you can run a search or ask a fellow .org member...
The cover for the filter itself needs slide down from the housing...
Fairly simple process 20 min tops....remeber to remove the airbag harness and the glove box light...

Problem and Fix For Two Part Carbon Filter
Funny, I just replaced mine last weekend. The one that was in the car originally was a single large fiberglass pleated filter (not carbon activated) and washable. This filter was badly discolored (from dirt it had captured) and the pleats were holding little pieces of leaves and dead insects. This was the first time I had ever changed the filter since I bought the car in November 2001.
The new filter is the two piece carbon activated type. I was very disappointed to discover that there were relatively large gaps where the two pieces interfaced - I didn't want any leaves or small dirt particles to get into my A/C evaporator or the rest of the ventilation system. My solution was to install a 3/8 wide strip of 1/4 inch thick weather striping on the leading edge (read: blower side) of the two piece filter. It took some effort to get the filter pieces in to the slot with the weather stripping on it, but at least I now know that no dust or dirt can get past that filter!
I only regret that I didn't take any photos of a job well done.

my experience on the old filter was the same, it was the original, one piece flimsy pleated filter. After one year, 14K miles it was pretty discolored, and full of debris. I would say about 30% of it was black, the rest discolored. Not sure why the replacement is two piece? But its easy enough to get to and tap out any gunk that collects.
I'll have to think about what you did there ABS, with blocking the space between the two filters. Wouldn't hurt, but not sure its necessary.
I'll have to check out an I30 to see what that lower piece is all about.
thanks.

You are probably right that what I did was overkill, but I had a problem on my last car where all kinds of crap got caught in the A/C evaporator. I sure don't want that to happen again!
