Radar detector hardwire question

I just ordered up my radar detector finally and I've always hard wired them in previous vehicles. I've seen this article posted:

http://boostedmaximas.com/howto/hardwireradar.html

BUT - I thought I saw another one where someone just tapped into the existing power wires behind the sunglasses holder so running wires all the way to the fusebox was avoided.

Does this sound familiar or am I cracking up?

Please post the link to the install doc if you got it...

Thanks in advance......

If you have an auto-dimming rear-view mirror you can tap into the back.

I just ran mine to the fusebox to be safe. There's a perfect ground screw right there too. With multiplexed computer systems in cars these days I would never tap another circuit. Some are data circuits, hit the wrong one and *smoke* goes your body control module.

I taped into mine from the clock on the dash.

I used instructions from this site: http://2k2maxima.freewebspace.com/catalog.html

I like the location, and radar seems to have good range from there.

Thanks guys - I just wanted to avoid having to pull more of the car apart. I plan on mounting it above the rear view mirror (I do have the auto dimming mirror).

Now that I think about it - I'm going to be doing the tweeter swap out as well so the A-pillar has to come off anyway. I've had the new Polk tweeters sitting in drawer but it's been so damn cold that I haven't had a chance to get to it!

Dany - that's the website I was thinking of, thanks. For some reason the pics are displaying...wacky.
