variable intake mod?

stock variable 00-01 intakes have a powervalve that switches from long runners to short runners at 5000 rpm. my question is how can i make it switch at 4000 rpm like a tuarus sho for instance. i beleive it would have a more aggresive feel at an earlier rpm. if you've driven a taurus sho 89- 95 you would know what i'm talking about. i will try to figure out a manual way to do this(the power valve is vacuum asisted with a on-off solinoid)........anyone try this yet??

It's easy to do, but you'll be a lot slower. The switchover is set at 5000rpms because that's the ideal point to switch from the long runners to the short runners on the VQ. This is not a SHO motor therefore the 4000rpm switchover is not ideal. I wouldn't be surprised if you would loose 15+fwhp from 4000-5500rpms engaging the switchover at 4000rpms.

I know the Sentra Spec V guys are tying their butterflys completely open, honestly believing it's going to make them faster. They couldn't be more wrong, but most of them are kids so what do they know

i believe more people with 4th gens have their MEVIs that switch over at a different rpm. i havent heard of but a few 5th gens that messed with the switchover. it would definetely be louder as it would cause more turbulence. im not sure if switching it a 1k rpms lower would pick up any power at least ones with just bolt ons.

that i am not sure of. there have been some org members that sold them that ripped people off. i would put a thread up in the 4th gen section and see what the consensus is unless someone else here knows. i think courtesy nissan was selling them at one time but i dont know if it came with all the hardware.

Hey Dave,

It's easy to do, how do you do it? Is it a matter of adjusting your throttle cable?

Talk to Mr Cranman or iansw on this site. They've been doing group deals for a while now.
