That is what the shop who is getting my rims said I would need and I have seen some other people on here running that size on 8.5s, so I'm sure it'll be ok..

As for no warranty, what do you mean? No warranty on the tires? That doesn't bother me a bit, the Kumhos I got are like $85 a peice!

(Don't dog on Kumhos, I've run them for years and they have awesome traction in dry and wet conditions and they aren't too loud (road noise))

No, 225 40 is the max width on a 7.5" wide wheel. 245-55 should be fine on an 8.5" wide wheel.

And I have had Kuhmos too. They are dog ****.

225 are the max spec for 7.5"? I know that 235 is out of spec for my stock wheels which are 7" wide but im runnin 235/45 and its just fine. Im pretty sure that u can easily go 235's on the 7.5". Maybe 245 is pushing it but easily 235's. 8" is perfect for 245's and 255 will fit fine on the 8.5". I have no clue as to what warranty you are refering to but is OEM wheel diameter is at 25.9" as long as u match that or come within 3% of the allowed limit (which is what most speedos are off anyway) you should be just fine. The 235's on mine have like 2.1% more per mile then the OEM so im think im doin just fine. A 245/35 size tire on a 19" wheel is nearly a perfect match. 235/40 on 18's is like 1.8% more revs per mile but the 245/40 is 0.5% faster. So either way u is just fine.

This is what I don't like about Tokicos. Illuminas on my Honda had this problem, the OEM struts in the Maxima has this problem and so do the Tokico blues. I am going to try the KYB GR2 which is "low pressure gas" versus "high pressure gas". Hopefully they won't be as stiff and jarring over the bumps in NYC.

i had the toks and eibachs on my last car(98 svt contour) and now(just installed sunday) GR2s and eibachs, it feels a lil stiffer but not as bad on bad roads as the toks were.

Sidewall flexion is the issue, not speedometer calibration or rubbing. Your tire sidewalls will be more prone to splitting and stress by running the improper width. All tire manufacturers have a recommended rim width range for every single one of their tires.

The range of rim width for a 235 40 18 is 8"-9.5"
The range of rim width for a 235 45 17 is 7.5"-9.0"

Check yourself. Use Toyo for example
http://www.toyo.com/
Click tires
Click Performance tires
Click T1-S
Click Get the Tech Specs

If your wheel diameter and size doesn't fall under all of the criteria for their tires, they ain't gonna cover squat.

That is exactly what I want, softer ride on the bumpies and stiffer ride on the smooth roads and highways.

I think I'm going to be ordering a set of Eibach Pro's for my 2001. Even thought they are not cheap in price, I have seen other Maximas with them and I like the quality of the drop. For me they are low enough for looks, but not low enough that they will cause me to scratch everything, which just as important to me.

I will also probably get some Tokico shocks when I purchase the springs. Even though my Maxima is a year old and only has 17k miles on it, I do not want to deal with having to go through two separate installations for the springs and then the struts, once the stock ones blow-out. I have heard it's easier and even sometimes cheaper to purchase both the springs/struts at the same time too.

I just made the switch from stock to Maxspeeds with stock struts. First of all, I was very happy with the drop, it was very even. The ride was also only a little stiffer than stock. The stiffer ride was more noticeable when I had 4 people in the car and traveled on some very rough roads, the FDR and the Belt Parkway. My wife however did not seem to notice the slightly rougher ride. I'm very happy with this choice. I don't think I could have went lower or stiffer as I frequently have multiple passengers in my car. I'll try and post pictures next week when I get my wheels on. That is if it ever f#%*king stops snowing in New York. Just two days ago I was shoveling my driveway and making a snowman with my kid.

springs

well, i guess the choices are, at least from what i am reading:
tokico - really stiff
kybgr2 - less stiff than toks

maxspeed - good for the price, decent drop
eibach - good drop, stiff, expensive
sprint - better drop, not that stiff
tien - best drop, not that stiff

if i am wrong, correct me. i am only trying to decide on the right set up.

Hey how long have you had your Injen in your car, and have you had any issues or MAF problems with it?

had it for two months now. i haven't had any problems at all. although i still get shakey when it rains out, and avoid standing water like the plague. it's a good intake, sounds good, and performs well.
