Cattman RSB noise

I got the RSB installed today at this shop, and when i was driving alone, everything seemed to be ok.

then later on the day, i was driving with 2 friends and when i went over bumps i starting hearing those thumping noise like something from the bottom gets hit whenever i go over bad parts on the road.
those are from the RSB right? please tell me there is a way to fix it that it wont make any noise.

also, when i was parking my car at night, i was pressing the brakes, and moving it from R to D a few times and i heard thise squeaky noise coming from the rear right part of the car. then i tried maybe pulling the e brake a few times, and whenever i pulled it it made this squeaky noise like a door that needs to be oiled.

i hope my explanations were clear, thanks a lot
and please help me lol

Hmmm? I installed my Cattman/Progress rsb personally(and I'm far from being a mechanic) and have not experienced any of these noises you stated. Sounds like the shop did a horrible job of installation. Are any of the ABS and e-brake lines being pinched? I suggest you take it back and have them sit in the car with you when you drive it and show them all the problems you're having with it. Good Luck.

I've never had any noise whatsoever from the RSB. It's on there solid and tight, no rattles or squeaks. I would guess it's the installer rather than the piece itself. I can't recall anyone else having those problems when installed correctly.

Re: Cattman RSB noise

I know exactly what you're talking about, same thing happened when I had my RSB put on. I read through the forums, and people said it was because of the springs, and that the bump-stops in the rear needed to be cut to allow for more suspension travel. What the noise I was hearing was actually caused by, was the RSB hitting the differential (I believe, I'm no mechanic, wish I was)
Go to www.cattman.com and pull up the picture of the RSB, the silver mounting brackets that are vertically positioned in the picture are what hit the differential in my car. My mechanic moved them away from the diff, and no more noise.

Ask Triple8Sol. He might have some ideas where the noise is coming from....

The clunking noise you're hearing over bumps is likely the Panhard bar hitting one of the RSB clamps attached to your car's "axle" (yes, I'm aware it's not really an axle...). The cures for this are a) moving the clamp more toward the center of the car, or b) grinding part of the clamp off so it clears the Panhard bar. There's apparently a c) which is let the noise continue until finally the clamp is worn / bent out of the way - don't recommend that one.

Regarding the squeaking - dunno on that one unless you'd just had the car washed. The rotors, being bare metal, rust pretty much instantly when you get water on them, and there's a short period of squeeking / grinding the first time you reapply the brakes. Goes away immediately though, so...

Dont you loose performence of the RSB as you move those brackets more towards the center of the car?

also, where is the differential? and what exactly touches it to make that sound.

I've got the same RSB. One thing you may want to look at is if they installed the brackets of the RSB ontop of the small metal brackets that hold down the e-brake cable onto the rail arms, (can't think of the correct name for this part of the car, someone help!). Anyways check that out. Those small metal brakets need to be removed. Taht may be what is causing the sqweeling noise when you activate your e-brake.

had the same thing. Move the ubolts on the axle inboard a few inches and no more clunking. Does not affect performance.

you know, i checked out the e-brake thing today, i came to a final conclusion, its not the cable that is causing it, its when the car stops, it looks like its putting some stress on the shocks and that's what seems to be causing the squeaking.
when ever i accelerate from stand still with a little quick punch, you can hear the suspension squeaking or when i brake hard for like one sec, you can also hear it squeaking. could it be a bad shock? i have 60.5k on my car and its a 2001, i live in Boston and all those potholes and bad roads , you guys think i need to get new suspension?

i had both of these problems with my Addco RSB. ti fix the clunking noise, move the bracket on the RSB inward about 3 or 4 inches. look up and notice the bolt it is slamming into when the suspension compresses. just make sure it is inward enough to miss that bolt. i tried grinding the bracket down but there just want enough extra metal available to grind off. it still eneded up making the same noise. so just move the bracket.

for the squeeking (assuming it is the same problem i had) all you need to do is get some water proof trailer hitch lube and spray it on the bushings of the RSB. this fixed my problem.
