I would not recommend this place in San Jose I went to, I think it was called Extreme Tinting. My friend was happy with the tintjob he got from a place in Santa Clara pretty close to Santa Clara University. The name was "Dragon" something. I'm sorry my memory is terrible. As for tinting itself, I think you should tint all side windows. I have 50% in the front and 20% in the rear. I don't know if it's legal in CA to tint the front windows, but I did want the windows tinted somewhat, thus the difference. I think it looks good.

looks like california allows only 70% in the front.
do you think i should go for 70% for front windows and 35% for back windows?

Re: legal?

if you really want to play it safe then get the 70% in the front. its just that 70% is really light; i'm not sure whether it'd be worth it to tint it only 70%. how about going 50/35? you should either check out people's rides in person or go to a tint shop and check out jobs they are working on to see what varying degrees of tint really looks like. bottom line is you have to go with what you like.

Huh - I used the Solar Gard HP Charcoal (same company, also HP metal film like Quantum) and it looks about the same from your pics...? Wonder what the diff is? The specs are about the same...

Amusingly, when I asked about Quantum the guy who did my tint said, "did you hear about that on the web? whenever someone asks about Quantum they heard about it on the web..." Apparently we're the ones who like it.

Anyway, he doesn't stock it, so put the HP on since I wasn't interested enough to wait - the HP (think it's 32% on the sides, 18% on the back) looks great!

dood there a very big difference. The HP is 50% metal and 50% dyed. and also most tint does not warrenty agains fading. The installers say it does but ask them to show it on paper? the HP is not warrentied against fading. The quantom film is one of the best tints out there. that guy is stupid if he doent know what quantom is if he carries HP. HP is more of a black color because of the dye but quantom has a silver color to it. reflects more. Trust me in the pic you cant really tell unless u see it in person. ill try to get better pic. but yea quantom is better then HP. even ask solar gaurd.

Cool, thanks for the info. Don't sweat the pics, I'm happy with the way the HP looks on my car. And if it ever fades, the $150 to get it re-done is unlikely to kill me.

Yes - $150 for everything including moonroof.

So per your note I called the company that makes both Solar Gard HP and Quantum - Bekaert Specialty Film. They said specifically:

Both HP and Quantum are 100% metal, no dye. The only difference is Quantum is more reflective.

Fading and color change are included in the warranty.

Life is good
