Really bad day!

I don't know where to begin? I got new rims and tires from Tire Rack and just put them on a couple of weeks ago. Went for a spin, got bad vibration. Took it to one place, had them all rebalanced, still had a bad vibration. So I took it to a place that has a GPS9700. They found that one of my rims was out of round and one of the tires had radial run out . Got the new rim and tire from Tire Rack today so I went back to the tire place to finish the job. After being there for 2 hours the new tire also had radial run out andthey banged up the new rim . They also did some rashing on 2 of my other rims! Now I have to wait to have the rim refinished. Very hard lesson that I am still in the middle of learning. All I can say is if you guys want to buy rims and tires bring it somewhere local. No offense to Tire Rack, they have great prices but when it comes down to it, it is more hasstle then anything else. I really wish I just stuck to the stockers.

Re: Really bad day!

Sorry to hear that bro. I was thinking about getting some tires from Tire Rack. I wonder if this happens often. Which rims and tires did you get?

The age old Milli Miglia Evo 5's, and 235/40/18 kuhmo Ecsta MX's. Just wanted to post this to get some anger out of me and also help people like yourself who are thinking of getting rims. The thing is the package deals are great, however, they really don't know how to seat the tire on the rim and they don't spin the rims to see if they are out of round before sending them to you. And good luck finding a place in your area to correct there screw up. Thats why it is better to bring it somewhere local and spend a little more money, because at least they can deal with the aggrevation and any damage they may cause doing so!

I had a similar experience. I own a 01 SE. I ordered 4-Nitto 555's about 2 months ago. After installing them, mount, balance, and all that jazz. This odd and sporatic vibration appeared. Rotate and balance again. It starts getting worse. I am beside myself, ****ed at Tire Rack. Turns out it had nothing to do with the tires at all. At about 25,000 miles I had a noise(screeching) from the right front. The wonderful(sarcasim) service department at Ferman Nissan in Tampa FL said the wheel baring had become unpacked and they repacked it for me. The noise remained. They said it will eventually go away and it did. Found out today why. Said barring are mush. Sorry this is so long but I had to tell someone. My wheel now moves on it's own. I want an M5 at this point sooo bad. Anyway I had an all in all good experience with TireRack. When you deal with the volume of sales they do it is not difficult for things to slip through the cracks. Did they offer any resistance when you wanted to return them?

No! They were very understanding of the situation! I just don't know what to do because the rim I need to send back to them is one of the rims that is scuffed. I am so agrevated. Ever since I got these rims it's been one thing after another.

I feel your pain. When I first got my car about a year ago, I sold the Potenzas to the guy who bought my 2k, used the money to buy a set of Pilot Sport A/S from Tire Rack. Great choice, huh? Yes and no.

The first install was done by one of their recommended installers. They gave me the car after installation and did not mention the nasty pull. I'm talking about pulling you off the road if you stay on the gas. Turned out, 3 of the 4 tires that they sent me were bad.

Their customer service was OK. They said that sometimes tires have bad plys or something. I kept rotating tires to find the bad tires and they kept sending replacements. The final problem was not resolved until it was time to rotate the backs up front...about 6mos after purchase.

Next time, I'll purchase locally.

Well guys you will love part three to this episode! Got a call from the place that hacked up the rims today. They said that the place they sent it to can not refinished the rim because they can't get the paint(which I already knew). So the guy says to me can you live with the gouge on the rim, because we really don't feel like replacing the wheel.. At that point I lost it. I told him not only did you screw up that wheel you F----- up 2 others, one of which needs to go back to Tire Rack. He said he needs to call me back. Called me back and then said he will replace that rim, but he is not going to mount it. I said fine .
Does anyone know where in North East Mass I can go to get this last rim and tire mounted, without them the rim? Any help would be much appreciated!

I got mine from discount tire, they matched and beat Tireracks prices and that's awesome! Discount tire won't be undersold so I'll always go to them. They hooked me up and their service was awesome

Don't you wish there was a decent honest dependable shop in every town? Sorry to hear about your experience. Sounds like the guy who F'D up your rim is a *****. Even though I had a good experience with them I am not loyal. Especially if there is a better alternative. Good luck with the rims and tires man!
