NA 2k2 SE...ignition/fuel electronics

i have a 2k2 so it's obviously NA...now my question, does anybody use the Apex S-AFC or HKS AFR? any comments? as for ignition, MSD DIS-4 or HKS TwinPower DLI? any power or tuning differences between any of these products? does anybody have the wiring diagram for the 2k2 ecu? thanks for your help!

I don't have the APEXi S-AFC or the HKS AFR, but I do have the Greddy E-Manage, which is basically the same type of unit. The ignition portion of it was not proven by Greddy to be effective, even on the 350Z. But the air/fuel section works flawlessly. As far as power differences, the unit itself doesn't provide any just by being installed, but the tuning helps keep the air/fuel mixture at the optimum settings, thereby creating the optimum HP/Torque.

And for the wiring diagram for the ECU... what do you need to know? There's over 100 pins/wires on the unit. The entire diagram would take 3 pages to write up.

okay....

studman, i guess i should've worded it better when i said "power and tuning" differences: i should have said "ease of tuning" instead. anyway, so with the greddy e-manage, would you definitely recommend on getting an ignition amp like the hks or msd? thanks for your knowledge!

As for the 2002-2003, they haven't yet been proven to work. I know that the APEXi unit has failed all the 350Z tests so far, but APEXi was working on the beta unit for the VQ35. I'm unsure about the HKS. I do know that the Greddy unit has had problems on the 350Z as well, but unlike the other two, the Greddy unit is upgradable using downloadable software. That may make for an interesting thing to keep an eye out for.

So unless you wanna be a test monkey, I'd wait until the manufacturer's post up some good information (either about the Max or the 350Z).

Edit: The APEXi S-AFC and the Greddy E-Manage DO work for fixing air/fuel ratios. It's just that the timing boxes aren't producing any positive results as of yet.

I bumped the thread back to the top. I thought it was a good thread. There aren't to many threads on Apexi/Greddy E Manage and after market ignition systems for NA 5th gens. Just wondering what those who know think about these things.

more ignition.....

well, as for ignition, i know that these amps really do work! i used to have an all-motor integra with the msd sci. i got better mileage, and the dyno netted favoreable results. now keep in mind that i didn't get 50mpg or an increase of 10hp, but an improvement no matter how small, is improvement none theless! i got an avg. of about 1-2mpg more and 2-3hp with a torque value to match, especially n the mid-range. if you had a more conservative setup, you would probably net even greater results! i jus' wanna know if anybody installed these on their max yet. i'm not too familiar with direct/distributorless ignition, so any info would help immensely. i know i'm not the only one who wants to know!

This company has an aftermarket coil system, but when I contacted them they said they had nothing for the 3.5VQ. That was before the 350Z was out. It might be different now.

Just installed the SAFC-II

Ignition AMPs are worthless on most newer Nissans unless you're making crazy amounts of HP.

which one?

03BlkSETE, which company was that? wouldn't aftermarket coils be better with an aftermarket ignition amp? SR20DEN, why do you say that ignition amps are useless on the newer nissans? do the stock igniters already put out a lot of juice?

At least since the early '90s all Nissan's have been equiped with pretty powerful ignition systems.
