Cattman / Progress RSB - installation Question !!!

Folks:

Am going to install the Cattman/Progress RSB tomorrow.
I read the install instructions and some threads here about the install - there was nothing mentioned about how "tight" you need to torque the linkages - bolts etc.

The package has "locking" nuts for the U-bolt and the bushings/brackets.
I don't have a torque wrench - do I need one for this ? ( I don't plan to take off the wheels - using ramps ! ).

Is it OK to tighten is as much as it will go ?? Anything messes up by over-tightening this thing ?

Any ideas ?

Thanks - it will be good to get some inputs before I actually do this tomorrow

I'm pretty sure that because they are rubber or polyurathane bushings that go around the bar, you should tighten them as much as possible. That what I did and it hasn't been a problem yet, with about 8000 miles on the bar.

Thanks -- those are polyurethane in fact.

What is a locking nut anyways ?

no clue... it's realy not a hard install at all... one of the U pieces didn't fit and I had to bend it out... but other than that I didn't even lift my car up... only took about an hour even with the problems... don't sweat it, and it'll put a huge on your face when it's all set and done.

Just tighten everything as much as you can. You don't need a torque wrench.

After I first installed my Cattman/Progress RSB, everything was nice and tight, so performance was great. But it loosened up on me and I didn't even think about how the car was handling. Then earlier this week, I decided to tighten everything up, and after driving, I was like...OMG!! It really makes a difference to keep that thing tight.

My Maxima is so much more fun to drive now that I feel the full effects of the RSB.

Thanks folks --- so does the RSB need really periodic tightening ?
Maybe once every 5K miles or so ?

I just tried to tighten mine about a week ago or so, and all the bolts were just as tight as when I first put them on, except for one. So I do recomend to check twice a year or so and tighten as necessary, but it shouldnt be much of a concern.

I tightened mine up after the first week, and they're still tight 4k miles later. It's worth checking - a while back someone posted that their RSB bolts had come loose to the point of degraded performance, but that's the only time I've heard it.

Install Success !!!

Folks :

Thanks for your timely comments and suggestions .... I managed to install this on Sunday and it was indeed painless

Didn't take very long and the instructions I got from the org was more than sufficient for the task !
I still haven't managed to push it much to test the RSB -- Monday morning commute sucks

One question though --> the parking brake hose clamp- that had to be removed to fit the saddle -> I was *not* able to put the clamp back on - the hoses were not hanging loose - I guess this is OK ?
Let me know if this is not so !

Thanks

I finished installation of this bar today and it went fine. I was able to re-install the e-brake clamp by starting the 10mm bolt and then bending the clamp out as I tightened it up. I also cut the ABS wire braket such that I could install it in two pieces and retain both of the clamp locations for the wire. Installation almost looks like it came from the factory.

I am a believer in the RSB now as well. I took the car around a couple of very well known curves I drive and what a difference! Highly recommened.

This whole thing about loosening bolts got me thinking. Besides the Max, my other hobby is firearms, and, when I put a scope on a new rifle I will use loctite on the scope ring screws, when it sets it does not come loose, even with the vibration/shock/recoil of a .50 Cal rifle, would this work on something like the rsb bolts?

Yoogie:

Any pics of what you did to the clamp ?
My e-brake cable clamp is not attached to the trailing arm - I've not had a problem - but it'll feel nicer to have it back up
