WHOA!!! Somebody help

I have a 2000 maxima GLE for about a good 3 1/2 years. I bought it brand new back in 99/00. Dude i have 58,500 miles on the car, and im not feeling the same performance as when I first got the max. I am going to get the 59,000 mile (rather 60,000) check up on it. Now will they charge me extra to have the max put on the HP tester (sorry im not too familar with "car technology" and see if my Horsepower is good and im not loosing power. I have an extended warranty also on the max. Also is it a good idea to get the package 8 or whatever where they do they buff the crap out of the car, then cover it with silicone and teflon and clean the interior out and crap like that? It cost somewhere around 280-300 dollars to do. Is it worth it? And addition too uh, is there anything i can put in my car to get that feeling back in my car as if it were brand new.. Im not talking about SC/or anything like that. Like different filters that make a difference or spark plugs. Thanks in advance for your input.

Andy, not sure about their detailing package but close to $300 sounds high, even if they put "Teflon" on it. I think Teflon application requires 700 degree heat, or something like that. Anyway... a car detail shop would fully detail your car, including polish, for $120+. You may want to look there to spiff it up. You can ask around or look in the phone book for a reputable car detailer in your area.

The 60K service may not be a bad deal, although I do not think this includes a spark plug change. That might be extra but would probably add some spunk back to the car.

aside from various fluid changes, i would have the spark plugs replaced. nissan says 100k mile tuneup but dont make a mistake and wait that long. i would clean the throttle body and make sure the air filter is good. might also want to have them replace pcv. as far as the detail, sounds way too high. as mdeal said, you can go to any detail shop and get the works for around 120. just the plugs and throttle body should restore the lowered performance feeling. while you are at, you could pick up a k&n drop in filter. wont add any power you can feel but it does increase air flow over stock and is reusable.

if you havent had new coils (on an early 2K!!), that and plugs is probably the root of your problem.

MAF and O2 sensors could be an issue, but would likely throw a light on the dash.

Also, you might want to change gas stations.. I know that sounds simple, but you could have bad batch of gas.

Change your transmission fluid and filter, especially if you have never done so yet.

I made that detailing mistake when I bought my car - don't do that. What I found later was that my dealer didn't even bother to do it himself - they subcontracted local detail shop for 40% of the price. I could do it myself at very same place! Well, that and couple other cases killed my trust to them completely.
Performance - fill it with highest octane you can find and good brand just to check if the problem is not gas related. Check/replace your air filter. If that doesn't help then you'd need mechanic/dealer's help to check/replace spark plugs and clean throttle body. I don't like those so called "plans" when they sell you service you don't need and you have to pay all the way for things that you really need. If you're sure that your fluids are OK and gas/filter trick doesn't work - complain explicetely about car performance. It won't help if they change coolant and bleed brakes - you'll be left with the same problem at the end.

Those teflon detail jobs are a complete waste of money. You would be better off detailing it yourself or paying someone to do a regular detail for you with a paint cleaner, polish and wax.

i dont have either of those stores around me, but a k&n drop in would run 30-40 and for the plugs stick to ngk. you can go with either the coppers or platniums. the coppers are cheaper and better conducter but have to be replaced more often.

Don't do to Car BOutique, they are way to over priced. youcan get K&N at www.performanceintl.com and NKG plugs at http://www.performancesparkplugs.com...s_site_004.htm they have new Iridium IX plugs for $8.5/each. Since you have almost 60k might want to add some BG 44k to you fuel. It'll clean your injectors and fuel lines. You can get it at http://www.extrememotorsports.com/g3cat/misc.htm

Max has 6 cilinders engine - buy 6 unless you've already got 2 from somwhere else.

Nikal:

I thought the manual said something about *NOT* to add any additives to the fuel etc ?

I don't know why this "BG 44k" would be an exception - let us know if you have any ideas .....

theyve had this recommendation in every nissan manual that i have seen. i use chevron techron fuel system cleaner about every 10k to help keep injectors clean. obviously using it too often or in too large of quantaties, then it could cause a problem. the chevron and BG seem to the more popular ones around here for those that use them.
