2k2 6 speed good deal?

2k2 6 speed, 9K miles, MINT condition
Options: sunroof (no leather, Bose, or climate control).

$20,500 AFTER TAX, etc, etc.......

Base 2K3 6 speeds are ending up at around $26K after tax title, license, etc.....

I think thats good deal. Some guys will give you some bs about how the average price is below that for a 2k2. My thinking is since the market is flooded with ragged on maxima rentals, lowering the going rate and the fact that its a 6-speed with only 9k for 20.5 after taxes, that its a good deal.

Also depends on your area really.

I paid 20.5 for my 2k2 6-spd, w/leather, sunroof, bose and 12K miles a few months ago. But before taxes.

Go for it do the leather yourself, Bose sucks anyway, and climate control in nothing special

I paid $22.5 3 months ago for a 2K2 SE 6 speed with moonroof, leftover on the showroom floor 11 miles on it. The great deals on 2K3's ($20K) are few and far between...All in with tax, title, finance and extended warranty I paid $26K.

So, I am driving a 2K2 with 3,400 miles on it...less than most 2K3's.

I don't have leather or Bose but I put my own system in and after much thought decided that I won't be putting in aftermarket leather. I would rather spend the $1300 towards the future SC or some other performance upgrade.

I am not going to BS but will tell you straight up, 20.5 is a lot for a used 2k2 with no options but the sunroof. Cmon guys the invoice on brand nwe 2k3 SE 6spd is 23.8 with delivery+tax and tages (about 25 on the road). A moonroof adds 800 to the invoice. And thats all for 2k3 not 2k2 dammit. A car that is 2 model years old should cost at least 3 grand less than invoice.

Yes but TTL is going to be 1000-15000 so he's paying about 19,000. So that's pretty fair. I say its fair. With that mileage its as good as new and you have lots of warranty left.

It's used private party....no sales tax. It blue books at $21,500 (private), $23,700 (retail).....

Also, one MAJOR factor to consider......

After doing a NATIONWIDE search on Autotrader.com, there are a total of FOUR 2002 6 speeds available, ranging in price from $21,900-$23,400.

Automatics are a dime a dozen......but I'm not looking for an automatic, especialy one that has been a rental car.

Plus, it's good to know that you're buying from an org member. Who KNOWS what kind of abuse those 4 other 6-speeds have been through.

Hmmm... let's do some math here.

"A car that is 2 model years old should cost at least 3 grand less than invoice."

So invoice on this 2k2 was $23,800 + 800 (sunroof) = $24,600
The car is being sold for the fabulous price of $20,500
So that's $4,100 less than invoice for a car with less than 10k miles that will be one year old on April 26th of this year. And yet 20.5k is paying too much!

[begin 14 yr old blonde chick voice]
umm.... math is like soooooo hard!!!!

your argument is flawed because you fail to realize that 2002 is 2 model years old. With 2004 that are hitting the dealerships, and 2003 are still sitting on the lots, what is the real value of this used 2k2? You can actually subject the car to a great tear and wear in 1yr/9K miles. Buying from an .org member carries a special risk of a car to be raced. C'mon show me a guy calling himself a car enthusiast who had never opened the full throttle. To each his own, but the same car in just 6 mos. will cost 16 grand.

I agree with Matt, 2k2 at that price is a good deal, some members on this board will say that this car can be gotten for 16K, show me one that is selling for that price. That is not a prior rental auto, 2k2 autos are going for 19K here in the DC area and that is for a car with a sunroof and standard features.

Andy this is a good deal and I would do it, all those saying its not haven't a clue, so all those saying this is not a good deal, just shut your holes and zip it.

Taking a car to full throttle is healthy for the car
Not changing the oil regularly is not.
Not letting a car warm up is not.
Not taking care of the paint is not.
Not being aware of how to save a clutch is not.
Letting bird crap sit on the hood is not.

Need I go on?

YOU try looking for a 6-speed maxima. Come back and tell us how easy it is to find one.

BTW- I didn't mean to start a flame war here, especially with the seller involved. I just wanted some affirmation. Everyone's opinions have been much appreciated.

Hey Asu..bottomline...you seem like a smart guy, you should know what you want and know what you are willing to pay for it.

Hey if it was me, I'd go new, at least pay a couple extra grand, and have the piece of mind knowing it was you and only you driving it, knowing how yourself drives....

But to me, 6 speed is not a consideration being the fact that I live in NYC and traffic is horrible enough, I don't need to complicate things further...

Make a decision and be happy with it.....thats the only rationale in my mind...

I don't have an argument. You said the car should sell for at least $3k under invoice. It sold (at about 4:30pm today, to be exact) for $4100 under invoice.

Of course the car was redlined. Heck, you should have seen Andy test driving it!! I can guarantee you he's gonna be driving this car harder than I ever did!!! I was sitting there thinking... "geez... this kid only needs a 3 spd transmission... 4th - 6th is going to lock up and freeze from lack of use!"

I'm sure Andy will be happy with the car and I am happy to be rid of it.

Believe it or not, I was actually testing the VIAS to see if it kicked in.

And I am happy with it....having trouble getting the damn taillights out, but I am VERY happy with it......

By the way, in case any of you were wondering, it's sitting in my garage right now.
