Cleaned the Throtle Body!!

And Let me tell you that i was scared like a little biach because i think i open the butterfly too much and the car sounded like BAMMMM! **** that made me run...lol but then i got the hang of it... Black smoke came out of the muffler, the engine check soon came on...but the best thing is that i had fun and learned to do maintenance on my own car... The difference is noticeable but is not like DAMMMN...

hey Jay..I just don't understand, why would you feel the need to clean the throttle body on a car that's a year old?

Yes! It definitely makes a world of difference. I cleaned mine at about 35K miles and I'm about to do it again at 59K miles. It was black and had a dirty ring around the butterfly. My whole rag was black by the time I got done.

Instructions? Pics?

I'm guessing just pull the butterfly and wipe with a rag, huh?

(or open the butterfly and wipe each side)

I would, just to keep things in good order. Some people love there cars to much to just sit and have everything dirty, like me. If you ever saw me, I'd be outside or in the garage cleanin the car 24/7.

P.S. I very very very obsessed with maxima's

IF you want i can help you out, i got the experience now!!... lol but yes that link is how i actually learned how to do it, the butterfly is the lever that opens up once your engine needs air, you'll see it once you take out the whole intake, make sure you dont open the lever two much.

if you have a chance, i would go to some place like autozone that does diagnostic testing for free and pull the code just in case. but just pull off the negative cable overnight.

Did you try removing the whole tb and cleaning it that way. Must easier to clean. Only 4 bolts to remove and gasket..

You can clean the whole throttle body and manifold by having someone rev the car while you periodically spray TB cleaner down the open valve. It sounds scary, but its harmless and helps a little.

You didn't come up with that. It was a silly song I heard in elementary school 20+ years ago. The real version goes like this:

I never saw a purple cow.
I never hope to see one,
but I can tell you anyhow.
I'd rather see (one) than be one.

I personally just put TB cleaner on paper towels and wiped it clean. I was amazed at how much gunk there was built up around the inlet.

I did the TB clean in my SE-R. I used throttle body cleaner and used a toothbrush to "scrub" all that nasty crud off. Of course, throw away your toothbrush after.

The version I heard came accompanied with weird synthesizer music. I'm actually embarrased I can remember something like that. I would be in a much better place today if I could exchange this type of useless information with something more usefull. It's is strange what the brain chooses to retain and delete.
