Anyone out there experiece any extreme shocks when getting out of their Maxima's? I recently purchased a 2001 SE and almost everytime I get out you can almost see the electric shock coming as you reach to shut the door closed. Sometimes minor but other times it's a @#$$%%$##@ powerful shock. Just curious to see if anyone is having the same issues. Any fixes?

Yeah, it only happened to me once, which was the other day. I reached to close door, and felt a shock. About your case, that's weird, cause I know a lot of electronical equipment in the car use your car body as a ground. Better get that checked out real quick.

Don't know about fixes but I got a new 01 Se and the same damn thing happens to me. And yeah, sometimes it's a pretty nasty shock. I guess from now on I'll let my wife touch the car first

My car shocks my friends to death every time the temp drops below 50 degrees or so... it never seems to shock me though. Good loyal car . It depends a lot on the tires, and how well they hold a charge. In extreme cases your car can build up a charge that will zap toll collectors after highway driving.

I too get zapped everytime....

but I am thinking it is from having the heater on. I really do not remember this happening when it was warmer. So hang in there....spring is only 8 weeks away !

Me too!

I thought it was just me... mine shocks the living $%^& out of me every time I get out of it if the temp. is below 40 or so.

For a while there, I was even popping my door with my shoulder to just go ahead and get it over with... it hurts less there than on a finger tip if you ask me.

Nasty shocks. Any fix for this at all?????

This happens to me all of the time when the temperature is cooler. It did not happen today. It is raining today.

I get shocked when it's really cold outside. Use your key and touch metal before you close your door... it'll help.

I posted a thread on this a long while back. I get shocked a lot but unlike most of you it seems to have died down in the colder weather... or perhaps with the cars age?

Re - Shocks Cloth Seats

Do all you Maxima owners that are getting shocks have cloth seats? I have leather seats and I never get shocked. The car before had cloth seats and boy did I get some nasty shocks. Just like in the house when you walk across the carpet you can get a static build up until you touch something that is grounded.

Go to Auto Palace, est. and get yourself a grounding strap and attach it under the car to a clean metal anchor point. It's basically a carbon impregnated rubber strap that drags on the ground and bleeds off excess electron differential. They are quite effective at eliminating the zaps; cool dry weather intensifies the symptoms. There is nothing electrically or mechanically wrong with your ride. Older American iron with the vinyl seats could stop your heart!

Try getting completly out of the car with both feet on the ground before touching the outside of the door to close it. Nearly every car I have had has shocked me. My Grand Cherokee has shocked me from 4 inches away!! Ouch!

Leather no shocks. I've had cloth on the last 4 cars and used to get shocked all the time.

I get shocked every once in a while, too. Most of the high performance aftermarket tires have silicone in the tread compound. You get better traction in the wet with them, but they will build up quite a charge. If you MUST stop on the side of the road to take a leak... you might want to stand well away from your car. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzap!

hahaha mister sparkle...

i think what u can do is attache a chain to the car and let it drag on the ground, real loud and ugly but should work. or a metal cable or something.

I get shocked also and some of them are pretty vicious. Try this next time: Hold the inside metal part of the door frame while geting out and before you put your feet on the ground. This will allow the charge to pass through your body to ground. It works for me whenever I remember to do it.
