I am in the military stationed in London England and have to pay a grip to have my car worked on. The local base machanic wants to charge me 4 hours labor for the back two springs and two hours labor for the front springs (just the springs) That seems like a bit steep for just some springs, what do you guys think? He said he has to remove the rear dash panels inside to get to the top of the rear strut. Please help!!!

 

He doesn't have to remove the rear dash panel, just the trunk lining. Spring or strut install should be the same price to include no more than $375. This should include alignment which is definately necessary after the install.

 

I'm in the military stationed in Arkansas. The mechanics told me that my car has sensor on the suspension and if I dropped it the check engine lights would come on. Is this true?

 

The Nissan dealership tried to tell me it would be around 260 for front and 260 for back. I don't think there is any sensor that you will have to worry about.

 

No. Only the brake line clips on to the strut body... it is just a clip and can be removed easily. But if you are working on your suspension, just be aware of the ABS sensor cable... you don't want to accidentally pull/stretch/cut it when in there....

 

I paid 200 for my install and 35 for my alignment and that was from a great Nissan specialist. I'd go nowhere else

 

dayam those are some steep prices..I get mine done for about $100..btw if your in the military does the base you are located at offer a Auto Hobby shop where you can work on the install yourself..over here at my base they have carlifts and all the tools you need..and it only cost about $2/hour to rent out the space

 

why not do it yourself?

You'll need a jack, two jack stands, a spring compressor, and sockets/wrenches.

It's really not that difficult. Save yourself some money... learn something...

 

We do have a auto hobby shop but right now they are only letting the mechanic use it to work on peoples cars. I would do it myself but I don't think my wife would really go for that. I have recently tried to put a race exhaust on my motorcycle and ended up breaking all the manifold bolts off into the block and it cost a lot to get 'em all drilled out. She isn't going to let me do a job this big on the car she drives everyday (not without mouth) so if I were going to attempt it I would have to know what I'm doing...and I don't! Anyone know where the step by step links went and if there is one for install like this?

I got my springs done for $150 at Maximum Tuning. He did the springs and a UDP install in about 1.5 hrs.

 

Timewise it took me only 3 hours total for the install of front and rear. First time I ever did it so it could be done quicker. I'd say 3 hours labor for all four is fair.
