Thieves!!!

Sat morning, I'm about to go play ball, when I find my car sitting on a jack, and my driver side rear wheel was gone. I couldn't begin to explain how mad I was . But worst off, I got disgusted . How I wanted to smash someone's head in. I briefly thought about selling the car and buying a piece of junk (as if it was the car's fault). Anyway, now I need a 17" wheel, or a new set of rims. Any suggestions??

Thanks

Did you have a wheel lock nut on your rim?

Hey scorpiao:

At least they used a jack stand for your car.
Mine was put up on a stump of wood. (back right wheel)

Luckily, my insurance covered the cost of a new
rim and tire from the dealer.
I have a 2002 Maxima SE, and would you believe that
the bill came to around $950 for the single rim/tire/labor!!!!
What a rip.

Anyways, I am planning on getting a new set of wheels soon.
Wanna buy my 2002 Maxima SE 17" rims with Potenzas for
$850 total price with shipping already included? My car
only has 5400 miles on it, so that is also how many miles
the tires have on them. (cept for one of the tires only has
like 1000 miles on it since the theft. )

I saw some OEM wheels on ebay last week. Be careful where you park your car b/c they may be back.

This may be off topic a bit but did your insurance company raise the total premium on your car? Most people I spoke to said it's most likely that these bastards will. (We're paying too much for car insurance here, nobody likes them)

I'm asking because sh*t happened to me.
My car was parked and somebody scratched up the trunk and the bumper. I was speechless that morning.

The total came out around $1100 ($1600-$500 deductible)

Nope.
Premium did not increase.
I'm guessing that if vandalism only happens
once every GREAT once and awhile, your insurance
company will not mark you as a high risk individual.
Having more than 5 years of perfect record and being
in the "ultra-prefered group" is also helpful.
btw...I use Geico.

While we're on the off-topic...
Does anyone know the answer to this:
If Geico appraises and gives me a check for $950 to replace a stolen
rim/tire on my Maxima, do I have to use that money to buy a single
rim/tire from the dealer like they appraised it for, or can I take
that money and buy myself a set of 4 new rims from Tirerack?
(legal or not?)

I think it's perfectly legal. Deal with them (the insurance company). Meanwhile you can get some money back by selling the other 3 on Ebay.

That is my dilema now. Whether to replace the rim or just buy an aftermarket set. I was planning on buying a set but not anytime soon. But I don't want to replace the rim and then buy a whole new set. I like the lowenhart BR5. Haven't seen any Maximas with them. What you guys think??

I'm still paranoid about the car. I'm getting a new alarm w/ sensors. Bast**ds!!!

As for using the insurance money, no, you can do with it as you please. They'll probably tell you they're going to cut the check to the dealer, but insist that it be made out to you. I've done it before when my car was broken into and the stereo ripped out.

Maybe i've been living under a rock.. but people steal OEM rims? Is this a big problem?

...And where's a good place to get those wheel nut locks?

I Have a $500 deductible, so I'd still pay for most of it.

I too was surprised. I know there is a problem with HIDs being stolen, but stock rims???? BUT, I'm seeing a lot of 4th gen Maximas with the 5th gen rims. Where will it stop????????????

Get this...the one they stole had major curb rash on it.
Since then I've added wheel locks and a tilt sensor to my alarm system.

My friend has a 4th gen maxima with 5 spoke wheels. Just 2 weeks ago, he came out of the house and found out his car is missing. The police found it within few days. They took stereo + 4 wheels, smashed the driver's side window. The insurane company paid him $3500 something.
Although I'm very tempted with replacing my hub cab wheels, I don't think they will stay on my car for more than a week. Wish I had a garage.
