cutting stock springs

i know it's the cheap way out... but is it an ok thing to do? i know some of you have cut your aftermarket springs. and considering oem stuff is typically overbuilt, i wonder if it's ok to just cut the stockers for a small drop. i'm only considering this cuz it may be time for me to get new struts and i figure it can all be done together.

btw, i'm leaning towards the KYP GR2s to go with the stock springs.

Not a good idea...

It will ruin your whole ride, I know this because I had lowering springs on my previous vehicle (97 jeep grand cherokee) and i cut 2 coils off the aftermarket springs. The car would bounce like a rabbit. It was crazy

a few months ago, I was driving on freeway and saw a lowered civic with 4 people ran over a small bump. The car bounce 4 times and one of the passengers in the back bounce off the seat and hit the roof.

LMAO.. I'll pay you $500 to drive that truck just like that here in miami... (especially south beach).. Your better off driving with 15 inch chrome hub caps. That might be good for the snow, but theyre sure aint no snow down here in florida..

Then dont buy an F'ing JEEP. Simple as that. I would rather drive that then be a sellout and act like I think I'm a rapper.
And no those tires are not for snow. They are for offroading (WHAT JEEPS WERE MADE TO DO!!!!)

Different cars are made for different purposes. Here are my two webpages. My JEEP and my MAX. The JEEP for offroading and the MAX for driving fast. At least I know what each was made for.

I gaurantee that 90% of people that are not ghetto, gangster, or rappers think that looks stupid. Do a freakin poll if you want to. Bottom line - 20s on trucks and SUVs are stupid, ok Master P?
Save that **** for your Bentley.

I dont have a Cherokee. I was making the point that JEEPS in general should not be lowered. That escalade is crap. i wouldnt drive that if someone gave it to me.

If you live in Miami, buy a car, buy a drop-top...don't buy a truck....

an Escalade with 20's is fine cuz an Escalade is not meant nor intended for offroading, it's a pimp truck thats it......

A Jeep Grand Cherokee on the other hand is MEANT for offroading!!!!

if you only saw (if I only took pix) of what I used to do with my 97 Grand Cherokee......that thing OWNED MAJOR A$$ offroading!!!!!!!

Listen here hillbilly, we dont lower our trucks and put 20's because we think were rappers, ghetto or gangsters. We do it for the following reasons.
1. For the girls
2. Because its our style down here
3. Because it looks nice.

See down here, you couldnt pay a girl to ride in your wrangler.

See someone agrees. And im sure most people would.
Escalades, etc were made for rappers, bottom line. Looks pimp and has room for ho's, drugs and, guns.
Anything else is made for offroading (or at least be able to if need be).
If you want to lower an SUV then buy the escalade. but im sure you cant afford that.

Thats fine if thats the style where your located, But we have a different style. check this site out, see how many trucks on 20s you see. why? cause thats whats in style down here. Not too much offroading to do down here in miami.

OK so you are a sell out that does something "for the girls". My point is, I wouldnt drive a JEEP with a lift around town. it would stay in the garage for weekends offroading. i would drive the pimped out MAX around town to get the ladies. and trust me a@@hole. ladies anywhere love a lifted JEEP.

plain and simple, SUV's with dubs on em started with gangsta rappers tryin to floss their $$$$$.......

living in Miami, yeah u can get away with it because all you got is sunshine and nice paved roads...try takin that **** up north to NYC and drive over one of our million potholes and then see how fast ur thin a$$ sidewalls on them 20's get fuked up....

IMO, use the vehicle for it's intended purpose....Use a truck for offroading, hauling and use a car for pimpin!

I could definitely afford it if I was single, Not when I have a mortgage to pay for and a pregnant wife to support. Also when i just finished buying my 03 max (cash) .. Not the point... Your rule of thumb is just wrong...

actually, that jeep was not really made for off-roading. It's an SUV. It's a common myth that those trucks aren't really the kind they do that sort of stuff with, they are pretty dangerous when you do that.

I don't think any of the people who buy those things buy them to off-road, they buy them to participate in a FAD.... Chrome rims are a fad too... SO... The most stylish person, I suppose can be super cool and rock 20's on a behometh car and then really rake in the chicks....

That's odd. Whenever I see jeep commercial, it's going off road. But I kinda hear what you're saying.

Gameboy, you are too funny I hope at least that all the Jeeps in Florida are 2WD only. With AWD and those pimping rims, what's the point?

4x4 is only good in FL for driving over tourists in their sub-compact cars and rental minivans. Sometimes I think that my Max was originally born as an SUV and the body was swapped before I took delivery.

As for the original post, don't cut the stock springs. Yeah the drop will occur, but so will your ride. Lowering springs just place the coils closer to each other. Cutting springs remove coils all together. So would you rather ride on 6 coils with a 1.7" drop, or on 4 coils with a 1.7" drop. As for me, I'd rather ride on 6 coils, as it will protect my car, my engine, and me from the elements of the roads, beaches, sidewalks, tourist pedestrians, and anything else I decide to drive over. And I almost forgot curbs too.

For the rest of the arguments about 20" on a Jeep... WTF do you care? It's his car, his money, his projection of self, and his personality. So what if you disagree. Call it trash just like you would a riced-out Civic. But don't do it here. It's a waste of a reply, waste of bandwidth, waste of storage space, and waste of my time reading it.
