tire size suggestion
Re: tire size suggestion
That would be a 7" wide rim - there's been a lot of controversy on the matter...
Tire manufacturers will tell you the safest width of tire you can go for is 225 on that rim width, and I would tend to agree... if you go for a 235 you're pushing things a little too much and if you drive your car hard you may be especially asking for trouble. That being said, it's one of those things "that has been done".. but is not recommended. I personally wouldn't do it because it's a potential safety hazard.
Safest bet is a 225/50/17 or a 225/45/17 - only remember if you go with the smaller sidewall (the 45), your wheel diameter decreases hence affecting your speedo/etc. The upside of the 45 is that you will find MANY more tires to choose from because it's just a more popular size in the tire business.. EVERYONE makes a good piece of rubber in that size... and the smaller sidewall looks a bit sexier too...
A good tire available in the factory/recommended size would be the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S.

Id listen to Jer's advice, even though I have the 235/45's on mine
I have taken some turns at very excessive speeds but I guess its a still saftey hazard
Anyway the things you really have to worry about is not having the tire under warranty incase something happens to it, I did not take that into consideration be4 I bought mint but they seem to be holding up pretty well up til now. Its been argued a billion times that its out of spec and blah blah, and yes it is out of spec but It does work.
Then comes the speedo issue. The speedo is off by approx 3% in either direction (depends from car to car) and as long as you stick you within that 3% your fine. My setup is 2.1% too fast so im well within that range. The stock diamter is 25.9" for 225/50 but if you get 235/45 it drops to 25.3 so the car is gonna be a bit lower as well.
The side wall is just .2" shorter then 225/50 which is at 4.4" so ride is not compromised either. Actually it was better ride then sh!tty @ss potneza tires that came stock.

I used to run 235/45 Kumhos on my 17x7 rims until I realized they were technically too wide, plus I hated those tires. Last fall I replaced them with 225/50 Falkens. Its really only a small difference but better safe than sorry.
