2k2/3 Cleared Taillights

I've been working on this for about month now. The taillights are not hard to open but you have to be careful. Let me know what you think. Igor911, Playero, and Emax02 I e-mailed the pictures to you, can one of you post them here. Thanks.

I can't stand the amber lens, and it will match the clear side markers and clear Hid's.

Atleast put the red piece back in. You'll get pulled over in a heart beat with white outs. I don't like them just clear. You gotta have some color.

I know that in CA, you are required to have a red reflector on the rear of your car. Removing the red lens eliminates the reflector. I know the new Lexus RX330 has clear tail lamps, but it has it's reflectors on the rear bumper rather than integrated with the tail lamps.

Clear tail lamps = cop magnets

Thanks Playero for putting up the pics. This lens was a rough cut that was sent to me to test-fit, I sent the original lens to someone in CA to make an OEM fit lens. The lens here is not a perfect cut but close enough for right now. I've contacted about 10 plastic molding/injection companies over the past 2 months to make red/white lens but no luck. So I decided to get it a clear lens for now and maybe paint the top part red with Testors or Vans translucent paint or maybe paint the whole thing red. As far the law goes, I was thinking about painting the interior shell red and leave the lens white. The taillight is not difficult to open, I recommend that you use a handsaw instead of a dremel unless you can find a really thin drill bit. The regular drill bits remove to much plastic, if you look at your lights from the side, there is a gap, the plastic in that gap is about 3mm thick that surrounds the whole light. This is not like our headlights where we can put it in the oven to soften up the sealant, there is no sealant. The clear shell is pressure-fitted into the gray case. Just saw or dremel inside the gap all the way around and the clear shell will come off. To remove the lens there is 2 screws to unscrew on the back and the inner chrome shell will pop out then you can remove the lens. Give me some ideas on what to do from here. Thanks.

The lens was cracked, it was a damaged one that I bought for $25.00 from a junkyward here in Maryland. I have 2 more lights I bought from a member here for $100.00 + the 2 on my car. I went to Walmart this morning to find the red translucent paint but could not find any, I will make the top red when I can find the paint.

I thought the milky-white tailight fad was finally over. I'd rather open them up to smoke them.

Mine are painted body color, I think that's the most ideal of all options, looks freaking incredible. And the bottoms are clear because they are 01 lights.

I will not leave the lens all clear, I don't want to give the cops any reason to pull me over. I will try to make a couple of lenses in different colors: red/clear, all red and something similar to Maxima Zero's taillights. Hopefully I will have some pics next week.

I'm actually wondering the method u used to put the casing back together again.

And just another general quetsion, are all 5th gen taillights pressure fitted? or just the 2k2-2k3's?

If you were careful in taking apart the lens, all you need is clear silicon sealant to reseal it. No one will ever know that it was opened unless they looked at it real close.

Is it possible to make a lens in black? That would look sweet on my Super black SE.

Why not just trade your 03 SE tail lights for a pair of 00-01 SE tail lights (the black ones)? There are people out there who are always looking for the trade...

Its not the same, What i mean is Instead of the red lens inside, To have it in black. (i know it sounds crazy) but would be nice for shows.
