Crazy neighbor and his gas mileage claims

My neighbor was trying to tell me that the 2K2 Max he has will get 28 MPG in the city and like 32 on highway. I basicaly called BS on him. But he said his friend gets almost 36 MPG with his intake and chip. Well, when I put my intake on, it decreased my mileage, basically because I wanted to hear the roar of the motor. Am I missing something here, or should the BS flag be raised?

If you somehow obey the speed limit, those results maybe possible. If you go by the trip computer's reading, I've had it say 30mpg on mine when I was breaking it in, while doing 65 on the highway. But we all know the trip computer is off by about 3 mpg.

with my driving (20/80 city/highway) and taking it easy I get about 28mpg overall. If he's only using the dash computer he might not be lying, but if he calculates on his own he'll see it's not that much.

I want to know more about "with his intake and chip"... is he saying his friend has a 2k2 with a chip? What chip? I'd definitely call BS on his friend.

I think you're missing the smell of **** from all that BS!

Seriously though, I don't see how he can get 28mpg in the city. 32mpg on the highway MAY be possible, but highly unlikely.

Unless this guy cruises in neutral every chance he gets, these numbers are way off. Something tells me he's doing these calculations based on the trip computer, and as already mentioned, you can't go by that number.

Next time you see him ask him how he's calculating these #'s.

Definite .

I can't get that when I take it easy on my 3.0, let alone a 3.5.

I wouldn't call this a BS. In city driving, I have tested it and got it up to 28 MPG on my car, but on my normal city driving way, I'm getting around 20MPG.

That's what I thought. His intake and chip thing is pretty funny, they only chip I could think of is the Jet chip, which we all know is a POS. They have a Navigator that they did the same thing too, K&N intake and chip, and now they claim that those 2 things give them over 10 MPG more. I think if that was the case, every auto maker in the world would outfit their vehicles with that.

I am surprised he isn't running a Tornado in both vehicles! He could be getting another 10 mpg!! Heck at this rate, he won't need fuel at all.

I think ur neighbor is relying on the well-known-for-being-extremely-accurate trip computer and shortshifting the hell outta it.

First extended highway trip on my '03 last week (650 miles on clock) showed 32 mpg on the trip computer at a steady 75mph. I KNOW the trip computer is BS'n me when I see that. Actually calculated to 28 for the tank, which I still thought was good for a green engine.

All of my Max's have been consistantly around 21/22 for city, 27/28 for hwy. I think thats pretty typical.

I might believe the highway claim, but can't buy the 28 city at all.

Well if you want to go find out for sure. Go look at his DTE displace showing his miles per gallon. I never use the AC and I get almost 26 MPG.

Well.... it IS possible, but HIGHLY unlikely. My VQ35 got 26.1 MPG with an intake, Y, B, Cat, and muffler on the highway. But I also had the E-Manage tuned to be real conservative on the gas. So without all my fuel-eating mods, it's possible to hit 32 MPG on the highway, but the probability of it happening is very rare. However, the 26-28 MPG in the city is 100% BS. Unless his city is in Wyoming. Where's there's no traffic. Or people. And he drives from one end of his property to his neighbor's house. 20 miles away.

I call the BS flag on him.

And secondly, why don't we sue Nissan for incorrect trip meters? I'm outraged and furious about this.

I'm calling 1-800-Nissan-1 to complain. And also to complain about the ESM being wrong. And any other thing I can think of. Because I can. And you can't stop me. Nuh-nah-nuh-nah-nuh-nah.

It comes down to 1) method and frequency of measurement, and 2) wishful thinking.
