Tint Removal & Redo

I have decided I am not happy with the tint I have on my ride. 35% formula one premier. I want something more reflective, metallic looking, the tint I have just looks charcoal, doesn't look nice with the majestic blue. I had a friend tell me it's tough to remove tint without getting the defroster lines.

For anyone that has had tint redone, what was the cost to remove the old stuff, and if you have a majestic blue with tint can you post here or e-mail me pics at nealmanegold@yahoo.com. Thanks.

I just had it done last weekend. Took them nearly all day getting off the old tint and putting the new stuff on. Cost $80 to take the old stuff (20%) off and $100 to put Madico 5% tint on. I had to drive 2 hrs to get that price. Everyone else I asked quoted ~$100 to take it off and ~$200 to put new tint on. I have a majestic blue too and charcoal (black) looks good enough for me Sorry, no pics yet.

Videos on YouTube claim that you can use ammonia spray and black trash bags. Spray, then stick trash bags to inside of window and let it "bake" for a couple minutes. They show it usually peels off really easy.
I want to try this some time as I'd like my tint redone as well. My back window's tint is bubbling up.

+1 ... do some youtube research and perhaps consider doing the removal yourself.

I've seen 409 cleaner used, heat guns, maybe another trick of two.

It's my understanding that the tint guys friggin HATE the removal job.

It's also my intent, in the very near future to remove my 18 year old tint (myself) and have it all professionally replaced.

I personally think the removal process is best done myself in that there's a good bit of room for corner cutting resulting in maybe some damage to the car's interior components. If you've got someone who's irritated or frustrated in even having to do the job that likelihood only increases.

Like pretty much all the work that gets done on my car, I do it myself because time isn't a factor and I truly care about the outcome.
