puff of smoke on startup

I have a 2002 Se. Once in a while on startup there is a slight puff of smoke. This doesnt happen each time. I would say once every 40 starts or so. I dont think it is oil, but it might be gas. Does anyone else notice this with their cars. I mentioned it to dealer and they said excess gas in the cylinder on startup. Could this possbly lead to further troubles down the road. I would like to get this fixed while still under warranty

Does it run a little rough for a bit afterwards as well?

I remember someone mentioning that their 2k2's had this problem if they started the car, let it run for only a short time, and then shut it off and didn't start it again for a few days...something like fuel injectors continuing to drip excess fuel like you said. Consider it normal I guess...what color is the smoke?

Of course, Nissan said the hesitation thing was normal too...

smoke @ start up

I have a 2000 maxima se 70K, when it sits for a couple of days it will puff light white smoke for 2-3 seconds then stops. If it is only parked over night it will not smoke the next day at all. I have gotten mixed opinions from people but never a straight answer.

This happened to my 2k3, but when it was at full song on a dyno. I took it to the dealer, and they said it was poor fuel quality. dunno if this helps. Good luck

Fuel could be it...what kind do you use? Has your car always been a smoker? since you bought it i mean...

Does anyone know if it could be the Cat Converter?
