Do thrown codes stay??

If the computer throws a code, does it disappear after a while, or does it stay until its reset by someone with a ODB-II reader or programmer??? My plugs are waaaaaay overdue, which i'm HOPING is the cause of my rough running when cold, and not the coils... (replacing plugs this weekend fyi)

I had my car in the shop a month ago getting a bad MAF diagnosed.. The techs said there were no codes thrown or anything... Would they have come across a 1320 (bad coils) if the computer threw out that code?? Or if they are diagnosing one thing (MAF) would they not even check for a 1320...

hmmm... hard to explain... I don't know how the reader and computer work together.. there may be categories where only certain codes get displayed. but I'm hoping the computer can only throw one code at a time, and that it STAYS until overwritten or reset manually..

Anyone care to tackle this one for me?! thanx!

Honestly? I read your fwd/rwd post and I kinda doubt you would understand my answer(s). So I decline.
