Windshield Rock Chip Repair

I have a SLEW of chips in my windshield, so I call the local windshield repair place & they tell me they can fix them...$50 for the first chip, $10 each add'l chip.

Has anyone done this? If so, how is the final result?

New windshield = ~$200 with installation.

ya, but the last windshield I had replaced (in my 240) never looked right. The gasket didn't fit right & I always hated it. I want to avoid that now. Plus they said if it cracks, what I pay now will go towards the cost of a new windshield.

They can't really fix a rock chip. What they do is inject silicone (I think) into the chip whick minimizes it and keeps it from spreading. The only way to get a flat/smoothe glass is to replace.

I did this about six months ago. Insurance company works with local contractors. They came to my place of employment. Takes less than an hour.

By law (Georgia), can't fix a chip in the line of vision (nothing directly in front of the steering wheel, or something like that). Swing by any glass place and they'll tell you if, by law, they must replace or can patch.

Some type of stuff was injected, as previously stated. Took out most, now it looks like a tiny chip. Don't notice it unless you knew it was larger before.

Overall, I was pleased and got the result I expected.

Ok, so I'm upside down in a girlfriend's trunk putting some new speakers in her Accord & the auto glass guy shows up. He's like "Is this 1234 Main St?" Me not seeing the guy belts out, "You got it." He says, "You got a windshield that needs repaired?" So I climb out of the trunk & look and it's an old friend of mine. At the time my girlfriend had run to the store in my Max so my buddy & I do a little catching up.

Basically the repair cost me a cold drink and some conversation w/an old buddy as opposed to $50-$60. I love it when things come together.
