Turning Radius??

I just bought a 2001 Maxima AE and love it. However, I'm surprised at how bad the turning radius is... Is this common with Maxima's or do I need to fix something on the vehicle??

Thanks!

Yes, our turning radius is poor. Welcome to the club. Do what I do....don't turn

Just get used to the 3 point U Turn. I'm tempted to put one of those reverse beepers on my car since I have to backup all the time to park and U Turn.

I'm considering grinding the rod that makes the turning radius suck so bad. Maybe a 1/4 inch or so. I wonder if that would do anything.

Thanks all....I was starting to get concerned.

I almost caused an accident yesterday pulling right out across two lanes of traffic to get into the left turning lane. Well, I was quickly looking head-on into on-coming traffic as my Maxima would just not frick'in turn....lol.... Caught me completely off guard!

they have bump stops which prevent rubbing. its pathetic the turning radius but you get used to it. throw on some 20's then try to turn.

I bought mine 3 days ago and noticed it right away. 1.5 turns of the wheel and it's complete, unlike the usual 2-2.5 turns on most cars. Oh well, I'll have to wave to folks more often now, for letting me 3 point turn for a parking spot near my Uni.

Doesn't the Yukon have 4 wheel steering? Just another thing to break on a GM vehicle.

Like a rock...my a$$

OMG! And to think, I always thought I just really sucked at turning! lol So its just a prob with the way they made it. Damn, maybe they need to do a re-call, fix it some how. Cuz I almost hit another car head on when I was doing turn, I started screaming OMG turn damn it!!! Or it'll turn not enough into another lane, ugh driving is scary as hell lol.

just take off those steering bump stops. it will make the turning radius 35ft or something instead of 40ft

all the maximas with 17's have crappy turning radius, the 2k/2k1 with 15's and 16's wheels have a pretty nice turning radius.

thats a huge difference which would help out alot. but wouldnt the tires rub if you took the stops off?

With this car, I need to plan my U turns ahead of time. It's a pain in the ***, and I don't see what Nissan was smokin' when they let the car roll off the assembly line like this.

Someone should get slapped silly for this.

Nissan HQ must have big ole parking lots

Out of curiosity, I did a bit of research and found that the turning circle of the '03 Maximae with 17" wheels is larger than that for several full-size SUV's, including the Escalade, Trailblazer, Tahoe, Range Rover, and Lincoln Navigator. Boy, it's annoying looking like an idiot who can't drive when I'm trying to park in tight spaces.
