Anyone using flowmaster Muffler with the 3.5L

Hey guys, I want to run a single or double chambered flowmaster, with a b-pipe. Is anyone else using a flowmaster muffler with the 3.5L. How is it?

Not that I'm aware of, but PLEASE DO IT!!!

I like the Flowmaster design, sound, and price, then just add a pair of Borla tips and Mmmmmmmmm.

Anyways, I plan on it SOMEDAY. but with the 3.0 of course.

Well, I just need a shop to make me a custome bpipe so it can fit the muffler clean. Im not sure what model to go with. All I do know, is I want it chambered, not strait through. Any advice?

I had Flowmaster 40s on my Intrepid, and they are a very nice muffler... a bit throaty when WOT, and more interior noise than I thought... but a great sound.

The web site for flowmaster has sound clips of each muffler you can listen to...

I've done some research, and yes they have sound clips, but unless it the exact same car, well, your SOL. I was thinking the 50 or 60 series. Midrange growl, not to much interior deafaning.

You can get an idea of what the muffler will sound like... everyone that heard my Intrepid said it sounded like a Mustang with the Flowmasters... and that was a 3.5L engine as well... only difference is I had dual exhaust... you really can't do that on a Max without severe modification.

50 series would probably do a Max real well!

The fifty apperars to be a mulit chambered exhaust. With teh b-pipe, i think i should get some increase in flow, while still keeping the neibours happy.

I've seen the 50-series cut in half and it's pretty much a straight through design with the center inlet and outlet model.

There are only baffles(sp?), so no wadding/fiber stuff to wear out over time and get louder.

It's VERY free flowing, but Dynomax tends to disagree.

Yes, flowmaster calls tyem baffles, others call chambered. Yet, they are quieter then a pure strait through. We shall see. have to get my ar back first.

50 series is quite a bit quieter than the 40 series and if you get the deltaflow version it is quiter yet. I have a 50 series single 2.5 in, dual 2.5 out on my 94 5.2 V8 Dakota without a cat converter. In the lower RPM range under light throttle it is very easy to speak over and there is little interior resonance. Get the R's up to around 2500 and it get louder but not obnoxious. WOT is a different story. IF I were to start over and go with a new muffler without a cat I would go 50 series delta flow. For the Maxima, I think the 50 series would be nice and not too loud.

I completely agree!

Friend of mine has a '67 Camaro with a medium built 327, headers, custom exhaust, and I'm not sure which Flowmaster. Cruising around town or on the hwy it's pretty tame, but as soon as you go WOT, you can hear that thing from over a block away. I love that sound!

No...that's the ONLY thing that sucks about Flowmasters.

If you live in snow/salt areas, just count on replacing it every so often. However, for $80 that's not too bad.

If you look, it looks like they have come out with some stainless steel models on the 40 and 50 series.

I found my local Flowmaster dealer was a muffler shop, so you can kill two birds with one stone.

I'd personally order a Budget Exhaust 2.5" B-pipe(they call it F-pipe) w/Magnaflow resonator ~$160-$170USD shipped(site lists Canadian). Then have the local muffler shop crush bend(unless you're lucky and find one with a mandrel bender) you a rear section w/Flowmaster.

That's what I planned to do, but I figured why bother until I get a Y-pipe.

$160-$170 SS mandrel bends with a Magnaflow resonator?

That's about as top quality as it gets. I think the 4th gen. Courtesy B-pipe is $130ish, but I could be wrong. Warpspeed are about the same as Budget pricewise.

What do you think you're going to pay a local muffler shop for a custom job?

Ok...SS is not cheap and shops don't have mandrel benders. I found 1 in my town, but they only go up to 1.5" maybe 2" for roll bars and junk.

If you are going to just go with crush bent aluminized steel, I'd just have them hack off your rear section, weld on the Flowmaster, and leave the rest alone.

I put on series 40 flowmasters on my 2003 maxima and cut my resonator off and it sounds unbelievable. Deep and throaty.

I had dual flowmaster 40s put on my Intrepid... I had a guy at a local Midas do the work and it only cost $210.

Maybe, but same performance if not better. You're just adding sound.
