anybody have problems with their starter?

Hey guys,
Today in the afternoon i turned on my car..the starter works fine but like when you let go of the ignition when the car turns on it make this weird grinding sound and the motor gets somewhat of a kick start to turn on...

anyone have this problem?

you guys think the starter is dying?
I got 8400 miles for 8 months..

I dont think I can take it to the dealer...id have to take out the jucie

nope, it sounds normal until I let go, when I do, it grinds a little and feels like the motor is gonna turn back off.

Sounds like what was happening to my '95 altima before I got rid of it. The car started fine but a grinding kind of noise for a second or two after the car turned over. A friend of mine said it was the pin retracting too slow back in to the starter after turning the engine over. He said eventually the pin would wear down to the point where the starter would just spin but not be turning anything. Didn't keep the car long enough to find this out for sure.

you can rebuild/repack the starter, but if youre under warranty - just do that. It took 3 years and 36K for mine to make that noise.

Since its only doing it when cold and I refuse to leave my car at the dealer, I'll have to wait until it can be reproduced on every start.
