I see that a lot of people that own 5th genaerations are 23 or younger. How can you guys afford it? I only was able to buy one after I won big on the stock market. Otherwise i still would be driving my yellow 1981 VW Rabbit. Do your parents buy them for you??

Iron Clad
Leasing is the most expensive way to buy a car. That lease contract is iron clad...they tell you how far you can drive your car and if you ever wanna buy it LOOK OUT

Monthly payments on a 5-year $20,000 loan is roughly $400 a month. If you are 23, have a job that pays decently well, pay cheap rent, and have no student loans, I'd say that a Maxima is pretty affordable.

I'm 20... and have a max.
I had a 96' GLE and traded it in because I was driving it like 500 miles a week and the value was dropping really quick. It was paid off and worth 12K at trade in to the dealer. I then haggled to get my car for 25.500 or so +1300 for gold service thing... so i owe like 15 and pay 300 a month.

300 a month is not bad when you are paying 400$ a month in rent. And life is short right?

If you must know...
Im 20 years old... I am a network technician.. I work for a corporation... I travel 50% of the year around america so it doesnt make sense to move out of my house..I am barely home to drive my car...Love my Job.. and I love my car

I leased the car for $347 a month (and traded in a peice of yit car that i had for the 3g down payment..) and it has a residual of 15'6 in 3 years.. I didnt think that was a bad deal.. seing it has every option on it... I would think it will be worth more in 3 years than 15'6.. So either way im buying it out... I might sell it and get another car or I might just keep it..

The thing that helps is that im under my parents insurance so i only pay $80 bucks a month for insurance..It would cost me $400!!! If i was on my own policy!!!

I WISH my parents paid for my Max
I'm 21 and my parents (UNFORTUNATELY) never paid for ANY of my cars. (NO, I'm not bitter! *sarcasm*) This is my third new car and because of cheap rent situations, no student loans and a good paying job (especially at such a young age) I was able to afford this car. Plus I had a bunch of money saved in the bank, OUTSIDE of regular savings that I was just saving for a rainy day. Well what do you know, it was raining when I bought my max. I only put a couple of grand down, managed to get my max for 22,500 so my payments after tax, extended warranty, interest, etc near 400 a month (390 and change).

So that's how *I* afford it Good financial planning

Parents are paying for car. Though I payed half of the down payment. I pay for insurance. This is one advantage of living in a small town, low insurance rates. I pay for gas, sorta tuff for me to keep it past the 1/4tank mark with my busy schedule. I have 2 free oil changes left, then I have to pay for it.

I'm 23 and just graduated in December with a Computer Engineering degree and I'm working for an Aerospace company designing software for jet engine ECUs. Anyways, when your making $52K+ straight out of college they(car dealers) even gave me 3.9% APR on my loan. Damn thats FREE money in my book!!!

I'm 24 and a network/systems administrator. I bought (of course took out a loan) a Max because of my job. I got a great job with a large corporation right out of college so you could say I was very fortunate. If not for this job then I would've bought a lesser car. Lucky for me, I was able to get this great car!

mommy and daddy were impressed with my past performance in school and were pleased with my behavior. so they rewarded me.. oh and they were paranoid that my car would all fo the sudden fall to peices once i hit 45mph.. i bought myself a crx back then, dropped it blah blah blah with my own money.. now with this car, i pay for everything asides from the car itself.

Sold your stock to buy a car. Ouch!!! That's not a wise investment You know how much that money will be worth when you're 60? I'm looking to retire by the time I'm 50. I've got a strict policy. Cash upfront. No loans. 1-2 year old used cars with warranties

Next.......used Audi All Road or S4

I may be one of the youngest 5th gen maxima owners on the board. Im 18 and turn 19 in feb. I learned early on that the only way to make REAL money is to make it yourself. I dont mean counterfiet either... So i started 2 business recently. One is a landscape lighting manufacturer named llumistone Lighting LLC out of az and the other business is Djsjewels.com I sell jewelry including sterling silver, body jewelry etc.... So thats how i pay for my maxima.. I just recently got a job too because djsjewels isnt ready yet so i have been bored out of my mind and wanted to do somthing. Ohh and my parents dont pay for my car at all...

sounds like most of us are young kids working...

I am proud that I am able to pay for my own car. It would be kewl if my parents paid for it.. but I am happier paying for it myself.

How many of you young guys work for tech/internet companies?

its all bout the stock options! oh yeah!

Hmmm...I just pay or my car. No story here!

But, Im 28 so things are most likely different for me than some of the younger guys.

Who woulda thought that the Maxima crowd would be so young! Ive always thought of Maximas as sorta "old fart" cars! In fact, after getting it, I totally felt "old" and wished I still had my VW.

Since Ive been on this board I dont feel like that so much anymore! Thanks!

You definitely appreciate things and life more when you do it for your self. I though it was something my parents always told me because they were cheap, but its true

Well I'm leasing mine >>>
My wife is rather fickle about what she does and doesn't like, and the Max is her's at the moment, so I figured leasing it would be the best idea. I had a trade in when we got it, worth $7200, we paid $26,400 for our 2000 Maxima SE (auto being the only option really except exterior stuff, wind deflector, mud flaps, etc), so we only ended up with a lease for like $6000-$7000... so our payments are only $256 a month. Then my car is a '91 300ZX Twin Turbo, which is on loan. I may buy the Max, but I think I'm going to trade it for a 2003 Maxima with the 275HP 3.5L V6!! Same motor the new Z is getting, which I might also buy... hehe. Oh, and I'm only 21, married and a college student. Wife works full-time, I work part-time, and we both have aid to pay for college... So anyone can afford the car they want, they just have to work hard and budget well! =)

Later,
KaZ

Young & Married
25 here, but my wife works full time. I pay for the max, she helps with all other bills, including rent.

Who needs help from parents when you got a sugar momma?

Only problem is I talk about the car so much that she's actually begun to dislike the max. At first I thought, this sucks, we own an awesome, expensive car and now she dislikes it! (really she doesn't like me talkin about it ALL the time). But now it's more like, oh well, you're not asking me every week to swap cars for a day here and there... it's all most as if I now have an incentive to talk MORE about the max..

Anyone else have a girlfriend or wife who is tired of hearing how cool your max is?

Must be nice! Id rather borrow $$$ at 5% than use my own which can make 15%. (Well, until recently anyway!)

Both theories work out in the end. I hope to retire in the low 50's as well.

2 words: Balloon Payment.

It was a simple proposition: I looked around, and for my price range, there was nothing else I could possibly want.
I was going to go for a 2K SE w/ no options, but talked myself into AE... you only live once. I probably could have hung w/ the payments, but I was pretty upside down on my previous car.

Anyway, my plan is to keep it for a very long time, so I figured do it right and if I'm paying for a while, that's OK.

BTW, I'm 26.

That is funny Max1109 my girlfriend talkes about the Maxima all the time. She will go off to her friends about the car. The drawback is she always wants to drive.

According to Auto World Weekly, the 2003 Maxima will share the same engine as the 2003 350Z an ~275HP 3.5L V6! Just hope it looks as good as the current Maxima!!

Ever since I was 17, I had 92 SE auto silver max, then at 18, I got 93 SE dark metallic blue. After working for Excel telecommunication for 3 years, got myself some sales experience and right after I turned 21, I got offered a job with one of the consulting firms here in Dallas, as a Microsoft Technology Sales Specialist w/ my own office on the 18th floor . So here I'm, got myself a nice 99 SE spd max, hoping to drive it for couple yrs, then get myself something more expensive, maybe a new Z ... In the mean time, I make good $$$ and go back to school now.
