...stock options went crazy & vested
...phat severance check

David Bohnett is my hero!

..and not just coz of the stock options. He ran a great company and proved you didn't have to be treat your employees like crap and be some greedy, corporate, heartless jackass to make it ahead.

Not that young....

but at 26 I got my max and a 2k Accord V6 EX. MY wife and I work full time, after my Mortgage payment on my House in Orange county SoCal, I have enough to pay for both of our cars.

I sold my Modded Accord for 13K, and bought my Max GXE for $18.9K. Not bad. and the Accord for $22.7K

;)

I'M 21, and got a job, got help from parents for a lil downpayment, and took $20,000 loan, and paying $400/m.
i don't pay rent, and my folks take care of the insurance, but have to depend on myself for everything else.
peace

Huge down payment + trade in = 2K max

Huge means almost 1/2 the value of the car. I like doing that, will probably do the same thing when I get a 2004+ max

My mom and dad are paying for it while i'm in school

but once I graduate in May, it's all over. I have to start paying for it.
In fact, my parents paid for the 98 SE me and my brother used to share. When my brother graduated and found a job last summer, he took the 98. And I had to get my own Max, so I talked my dad into buying me a Max and paying for it until I graduate.

But then, I am a good boy. I maintain decent grades, don't somke or drink (my dad thinks it's really important), make no trouble, ... you know. So he doesn't really mind paying for the Max.

I'm 24 by the way.

But my friends think I'm really spoiled because my parents "upgraded" my car to a 2000, and are paying for it.

Well, if you **REALLY** MUST KNOW, i'm 18, and the max is my first new car.... I've been working for an upstart computer company for the past 2-3 years, a lot with e-commerce!!!.... (you know, where all the money is...)...

So, when you're a senior VP, live with your parents, and pay next to nothing for school.... a 26,000 car suddenly becomes "affordable"... Besides, the amount I would pay for Dorm (~8,000 a year) + other campus expenses, would cost more than my maxima over the course of 4 years.... This way, I enjoy (if that's the word you want to use for Jersey traffic) the Maxima every day, in a 20-30 minute commute.... The money I save on dorm, will easily total more than the car+insurance+gas!!!!!

I'm a good student, but hell, had i gotten into Harvard/yale/princeton/brown/columbia, there would be no maxima!!!! (insert **GASP** here)

heheh...I'm now 21 and I bought my 2000 when I was 20. I traded in my Sentra for it because I love the Max's. I work for a company that pays me extremely well for someone my age and I live at home. That is how I can afford my baby!!

I'm 21 years old, and I saved up 10,000 as a down payment, then I went out and bought the 2001 Maxima SE, fully loaded W/ leather and everything. After taxes and everything, the car came out to about 30,000, got a 20,000 $ loan, and payments are only 400 a month. Easily affordable it you work!!

That taurus listed below is mine, and itz as fast as a gen 4 max, and fully loaded too! I'm 18, in high school, no job, and too busy. I have good grades thou Thatz why I can't afford a maxima.

Re: Young & Married

Yeah, got that problem too. I considered changing but then I realised how much it will cost to re wine-and-dine a new one!

But taking a run up to 120 mph usually keeps her quiet!

someone asked, what do the parents of the young kids with the free maxima's drive? hah, this is gonna be hilarious, my dad drives my old 1992 mazda 929(my parents dont get rid of anything) and my mom drives a 1993 grand dodge caravan le. they never buy good stuff for them selves. they just spoil me and my sister. i feel bad about drving a new max while they drive 7-8 year old, 100k+ mile cars, but they really dont seem to car, infact, my dad wont even touch my max, he doesn't really like it. i think its because the driving and handling is different from the 929.

i have a screen that i connect my computer too. You will also need a power inverter to convert from regular 120V to the cigarette adaptor power. It can be purchased at wal-mart or places of similar stuff. it runs smoothly. I can use mp3's and stuff along with dvd's and stuff. if you want more info, i can direct you to some other webpages.

I am...

24.. parents bought me the Max as a graudation gift... I was going to get a civic SI(cheap and pretty fast) but since me and my sis shared a 4th gen max.. my parents liked it so much that they insisted that I get a max(they also think bigger car is safer). The only thing I pay for my car is the insurance which is pretty damn expensive in CA.. (180 bucks a month)...

Hmmm sounds interesting, i had a friend who tried the same thing, i think he had some problems, especially gettin a screen goin, thus he memorized the hotkeys to get his mp3s goin. What kind of screen r usin? Do u unhook the whole thing everytime u get off the car ? Can u post the links, ive always wanted to try this but it seems to be too much of a hassle. Thanks.

Let me get in on this...

I'm 25, wife is 26 and I've got 2 kids. We both work in the IT field, but with the Air Force. Me = Cisco, Her = Network Security. Paid a little over $30k for the Runner in 2000 and $25k in 1995 for the Maxima. I'm not sure how we afford this crap, but it's more along the lines of how much you're willing to spend. Basically, anyone should be able to afford any car(within reason), it just depends on how much you want to pay each month. Is $400-$700 a month really that big of a difference? Heck, my kids' daycare is $600 a month and a can of Enfamil is $19(which lasts about 3 days)! I want to hear how you guys that are married with kids can afford all these toys. You single, live at home guys have got it good, real good.

Oh yeah, I'll start on my second retirement at 39 and my wife will follow at 41. Guess I'll be buying these kids Maximas of their own in 2014 while I cruize around in my 1996.

I'm 22 and got my '99 SE-L when I was twenty. Unfortunately I wrecked that car and got a 2K GXE. They were both paid for by my parents. All I pay for the car is gas and the aftermarket stuff. I guess I'm kinda lucky, huh?

It's funny that you ask this question because sometimes I have to ask myself....how am I affording this? Well I'm 32 and wanted a 4 door sedan but something sporty. A friend of mine purchased her 2k GLE and boy was I jelous. After looking for a car for almost 3 months I decided to break down and take a ride in her car. Need I say more. It also helps that I only pay $355 every six months for insurance (insured in VA).

I own 2 cars and pay for it myself

I have a bmw318is with MANY modifications (www.geocities.com/c0lderthykissgtr)I also have a 4th generation maxima with a bunch of the usual upgrades...the way to afford all these toys is to work your *** off its soooo simple. i just raced a 2001 bmw 330ci with my 1996 nissan maxima se. I kicked its ***...gotta love it. Im saving my pennys and Im getting my M3 within a couple months

5 year notes

Most take out a 5 year loan not knowing how much they are actually paying for the car.

Car: $25,075
Sales Tax (6.5%): +$1,630

New Total: $26,705
Down Payment (25%): -$6,200

New Total (Loan): $20,505
60 Months at 7%: $405/month

60months *405 = 24,300 + 6200 (Down Payment) + 1,630 (Tax)
A Grand Total of $32,130

That's without any warranties, plates, registration, or any other gibber gabber, so you'll end up paying around $32,500 for a car you paid $25,000 for.

Imagine that $32,000 for a maxima, and when your done paying for it it has a value of about $15,000 seeing that it's 5 years old with around 50-60,000 on it.

When you take out a 5 year note, you never get a good deal.
Although you do only live once, so why not spend your money on apr financing.

your 19 with that car

teddibear703: you must have to use a fly swatter to keep girls (guys too hahah) away from you, man that's a nice looking car.

A lot of you guys live the lives I want, where's the signup sheet for a great paying IT job with stock options, a wife whose into Network Security, owning your own dot com business, and retirement at 45.

Must be nice! Id rather borrow $$$ at 5% than use my own which can make 15%. (Well, until recently anyway!)

Both theories work out in the end. I hope to retire in the low 50's as well.

I agree with you entirely. If you can borrow just about any amount of money at less than 6-8%, you're a fool to use your own cash.
