rough shifting at lower RPM

i got a 2k2 GLE, and my car shifts very smoothly above 3.5K, but anytime a shift is induced below 3K, it just isn't smooth. noticeable thud. what is the remedy? is a trip the dealer in order, or would swapping out my tranny fluid alleviate this? i got around 12000 on the car, synthetic motor oil (if it matters), and original tranny fluid. thanks guys.

if its thudding, check the fluid level. at 12k, you dont need to replace the tranny fluid but you can. some including myself have gone to synthetic atf but if its thudding there could be a problem unless the fluid is low which is an easy fix. just make sure you check it on level ground with the car on.

thanks, i'll check tomorrow morning. if the level is fine, i'll probably just take it to the dealer. i have a feeling if i swap out for synthetic right now, it may be a waste as the dealer's first solution may be to do a transmission service.

It may just be that you have a bad batch of gas in your tank? Anyway, I had mine flushed w/Redline oil at about your mileage. It did helped made the transmission shifts better/smoother. Perhaps you may want to perform the throttle body cleaning. I did that at around 14K and noticed considerable accumlated dirts from the throttle plate.

Have you done the TSB's for the ECU upgrade? I've heard that the software upgrade will help resolve some lags issue. I just got back from the dealer dropping off my car for the service. I'd also asked them to advance the timing too...don't know if it's going to be done?

I recently installed the UD-pulley. It sure make the throttle response much better. Good luck!

Same here. Going for Mobil 1 ATF at 15k. Other 2k2 owners have done it, resulting in smoother shifting.
