How many are going to trade in their 5th gens for the new 3.5L?
I see lots of threads of people who have these new Maximas ands are ready to trade in. How much do you think you will get for your trade in? How much will this new car cost? I am thinking about it too, but I need some professional advice.
Initially I thought I would. I'm not to happy with the reliability of my 2000 Maxima. I might check out Acura or VW this fall. Whatever looks good between the Maxima, new Altima, TL-S, and the new Passat is what I'll trade in for. If everything settles down on my Maxima, I might just hang onto it.
I might... I'm also looking at a GTI VR6, Sentra V Spec or Subaru WRX. My girl's gonna need a car in a few months so we'll be getting one of the above most likely and then if the new max is as impressive as the rumors I might trade it in.
FWIW
The new issue of AMI Auto World Weekly has a review of the 2K1SE Annv Edition and they state that the 2002 Max will have the 3.5 in it....but then again they could be going on rumors just like the rest of us
They actully do a piece on the new Z car also....
Hmmmm I dunno if I could ever buy another Nissan...great marketing, dynamite looking car, absolutely cooks, awesome engine..........sucked me right in....this Max has been the most troublesome new car I have ever owned. Nothing huge like the doors or engine falling out but just enough stuff to make this an unpleasant experience and left a pretty bad taste in my mouth regarding Nissans. I didnt get that honeymoon feeling that usually comes with the purchase of a new car. It's really a crap shoot with the Max as an awful lot of people here have awesome cars that they love....and on the other hand there are quite a few of us who got the Saki specials......
Thumbing thru this issue, I see a few cars that may replace the Max...(real soon) Hmmm Dodge Viper....Dodge is claiming the new Viper is a 500 across...500 HP, Cubic inches and tourqe...Hmm may give a Max a good run
I'll probably look at the VW's and maybe an IS300 if the stick is available next year..maybe an A4.
I'm not into dragging and turn 1/4 mile speeds etc so I don't really care for the 0-60 times..as long as there is sufficent ooomph to get me on the highway or out of a jam real quick, I'll be happy....
on the other hand I may just get a decent used car that maybe has some "character" marks in it already..that way I can go to the mall and squeeze into that spot near the door and not give a rats *** if it gets dinged

not to burst anyone's bubble...
I myself used to always say that I would never get a car the first year it came out. Whether it was a new car company, a new model, major upgrades, etc. But what did I do? I got the 2001 Maxima...yes it's technically the second year, but still new since they made a lot of changes (especially in major places ie the drive train). Now look what we're dealing with! We're the guinea pigs of their new tranny and engine design. Do you really want to deal with that one the new ones, especially when the up the power one more time and have yet to master the tranny problem versus power on the one they're already manufacturing? I don't know about you guys considering it, but I sure wouldn't. Does that sound logical?

I have just purchased 2k1 AE and I am very happy with this vechile. I would not want to trade in my 5th gen for the new 3.5L. I heard about the 3.5 l engine but could not wait for the launch of this engine in the maxima. I would not want to purchase the first year with this new engine. I think there can be some bugs I would like to avoid.
If I can get away paying the same amount, restarting the 5 year purchase, (more or less) I will trade in my 2000 SE (bought aug 1 2000) for a 2002 VQ35.
The only thing it will have to be white and manual. I would consider a green or maroon also.
