Brake Shudder

My car has also recently developed a case of the shudders when coming down from highspeed, above 80 or so. It appears to be getting worse as time goes on. Should I have the rotors turned or new pads installed or both. My car only has 29k on it so I can't see it needing new brakes already. Especially since most of the miles are freeway.

There is a TSB (technical service bulletin) out for warped rotors on 2k, and 2k1 Maxs. I think it applies to 2k2, and 2k3 as well. You can find the TSB for the brake rotors in the TSB thread at the top of the 5th generation forum. Take the TSB in with you to the dealer to show them you are informed about it and they should turn your rotors for you. Although at 29k you might want to get the pads replaced as well. Keep in mind the warping occurs on the front rotors so if you find you want to replace the pads you only will need them for the front.

FoodManny:

You think there is a TSB for 2002 Maximas? Can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

well the TSB is only for 2k/2k1 cars but some have gotten lucky by getting them covered under warranty OR bringing in the 2k/2k1 TSB and showing similiar symptoms and dealers have accepted this. that's iffy though.
also, it will come back, no matter how many times you warranty it. i went ahead and bought aftermareket rotors (irotors.com, paid $245 for all 4 rotors, shipped, rust protected, and slotted for heat disipitation) and then aftermarket pads, although my guess is that OEM pads could work just fine.
if you're not going for the look, you can pay $20 less per pair ($40 total) and they would be blank rotors (no slots or x-drill)

not saying to go this route, but at least you have a backup plan. good luck.
