Is it true that a 4th gen 5 speed is quicker than a 2001 5 speed even though it has more horses?I ask because i am now looking at a 2001 5 speed instead of the 2002 auto im was checking out.thanks

i used to own a 4th gen max.....traded in for a 02...02 definitely much faster, pulls harder on the highway....as for 2001 se...i still think 5th gen will take it...

 

Stock 99 auto and stock 2k-2k1 auto, the 4th gen wins every time.

 

2000/2001 auto maximas especially with 17" are slow . i just hate my car for being auto sometimes. even auto 4th gens are faster.

So i guess i will turn my attention back to the 2002 Se auto instead of the 2001 5 speed and just have rhe Nissan dealer install the moon roof?So am i correct on saying the 2002 auto will smoke my 99 5 speed?or will it be close?

 

2002 will OWN a 1999!!

 

4th gen has more aggressive timing than 2k,2k1.....their torque reading is higher at low rpm. so from a dead stop, they might pull ahead of you with lighter body and better low end.

4th gen with MEVI is able to hit 14s with auto tranny. I havent seen 2k, 2k1 auto got into 14s.

 

The 2k2/2k3 might smoke it but not by much well im talking auto. And probably rolling.

 

Uh, not necessarily, especially if it is an auto 2k2 vs. a manual 99.


In any case, it will not be an 'OWNING'.

2003 will OWN a 4th Gen... not a modified 4th gen, of course... some of those are juiced or supercharged... but a stock 1999 manual vs a stock 2003 auto (mine, for example) will, like NT2SHBBY said, result in the 1999 being OWNED by the 2003.

Agreed, I use to have a 97 5spd and my 03 auto would take it all the time from a stop and kept pulling. Drive a 4th gen 5spd and a 02/03 auto and you can feel the difference plus manual 4th gens trap in the 1/4 at 3-4 mph slower on average and ar running 15's on average whereas 02/03 autos mid to high 14's on average. Dont try to use mag times for the manual because most of us arent going to dog our cars out to get their times with a manual tranny, auto just learn how to launch the 3.5 correctly.

 

the 4th gens cant handle the 3.5 tq.

 

no gen can handle a 3.5 stock. the 3.5 02-03s are the fastest maxes made..PERIOD..6spds OWN all!

What I want to know is where the hell did the 2k2+ comparisons get involved? This was very clearly a '99 and '01 question from the get go.

It's also just plain fun to brag about how your 3.5 02/03 will dog every other generation of stock Max including 04s(based on mag times).

You guys are 100% right on, however I think that I would have my money on a modded 5spd 4th gen. Some of the guys in the 4th gen forum with just a MEVI, CAI and full exhaust are posting low 14 second times. Some of the fastest N/A maximas are early 4th gens. Not to say that I would rather a 96 over my 00, but we have to give props to them when talking about fast maxima's.

 

Give us time, maxman... give us time. Soon Max 5th will rule the world!
